...Then why don't we?
Before I go any further, it is vitally important to state three things:
1. Making a game is NOT easy.
2. A project like this being successfully carried out over the internet, by a ragtag gang of fans, (with no prior organization, no funding, and I expect not a great deal of experience.) Is. Literally. Unheard of.
3. following point two, the team would have to be small, dedicated, and talented to pull it off. 100 people working on a single project will spiral out of control so fast its not even funny.
With that out of the way, I already have doubts about the viability of a project like this. Secondly, I would have to be delusional to assume this hasn't been suggested before. Though I can't imagine any prior calls to arms have been very successful as I have yet to hear about them. There are several projects underway to convince Capcom to restart production, but Capcom has made fairly clear they aren't interested.
---
So here is what I propose.
we organize a team. We make the game Capcom won't. But first there are several decisions to be made. How do we organize? Where? Once a team is organized, planning, schedules and deadlines, etc. etc. Choice of game engine, file formats, the list goes on and on.
The potential is there. There are risks of course, worst case scenario the project could simply fall apart for any number of reasons. The project could recieve a cease and desist order from Capcom should it prove TOO successful.
But as a fan I feel it prudent to push the doubts aside. I have seen greater miracles than this, and I expect to see greater still. I'll be posting this message in a variety of places, hopefully to get greater exposure and response.
So, before ANYTHING else. Before anyone jumps the gun. Before the project can fail without even starting.
What are your opinions. Can we do it? do you have any suggestions?
Can we create our own legends?
