Capcom today released its sale results for the first fiscal quarter in 2011 that ended June 30.
The company reported net sales of 11,953 billion yen, a 37 percent drop from the 19,037 billion yen it reported in the first quarter last year. Capcom did see an increase in profit for the quarter, reporting 338 million yen, a 58 percent increase from the same quarter last year.
During this time, the company shipped Resident Evil: The Mercenaries 3D - which moved 400,000 units worldwide - Super Street Fighter Ⅳ Arcade Edition - 300,000 units - and Monster Hunter Freedom 3 in Japan - 100,000 units.
(BTW, now anything regarding Capcom can be considered MML3 news!)

I don't think megaman legends 3 did this alone, a lot of people are mad because Capcom is really getting lazy on some games, the whole resident evil save file thing made people rage too

After this Legends 3 fiasco, I can definitely see it falling further than that. For Tsujimoto and Tsujimoto's sakes, I certainly hope they've got a lot of wine holed up in their penthouse once next quarter's sales figures come in. :22:

RyanLEO, their sales dropped before Legends 3 was canceled. This is probably another reason Capcom decided to cancel the game, but I think they may regret it, I know 30000 people who have a good chance of not buying Capcom games for a while, or possibly buy them used like me.

I was actually kind of half-hoping this would happen. I really think the Capcom execs have lost their minds. Messing with their consumers with the save file thing and canceling game after game doesn't help them in the matter. I can't make any sense of it, but it just keeps getting more and more messed up.

It's not really all that surprising, considering Capcom hasn't released many games this quarter. For the games they released, they say sales were at or above expectations, or so I hear. It's not that they're getting less for their products than normal, they just haven't had as many products to sell. So, I don't really think they're hurting so badly; if they ship some new games in the next quarter they should be alright. I'm not 100% certain of any of that though. I don't really know what to believe because some articles about this have conflicting numbers. :06:

Yeah, they better turn it around or Capcom is gonna go out of business "Gonna"? No, they're not. Capcom might have made a lot of errors and poor treatment even before MML3's cancellation, but it still doesn't mean they'll be under the threat of bankruptcy. Damn it, I hate it when people just assume stuff like that.

This is a thread with a pretty misleading title. Going into it I assumed (probably like most people here) that this was going to be about a sudden negative impact of the MML3 cancellation, which I figured would have to be based on completely made-up data because there's no way they could detect a sales drop like that after just one week.
Then I got to reading the post and realized this was just based on a regular quarterly report which has nothing to do with MML3. On top of that, it doesn't even have the negative impact implied by the title. Yes, they're certainly going to have less sales in a time period where they put out fewer and less expensive games. The fact that they saw an increase in profit ought to be highlighted just as much as the decrease in revenue.
Otherwise, people are going to misunderstand and draw the wrong conclusions, which is happening, judging from some of the posts above...

This however is signs that Capcoms various huge mistakes are in fact starting to hurt their profit, MML3's cancellation is a part of that trend of mistakes, and if it continues to drop then it's one of the mistakes they'll realize they need to fix.

It really isn't hurting their profit. Again, profit went UP. That part should not be so invisible. If the idea that sales are down but profits are up makes anyone's head explode, please remember that those are two different things, and profit is the more important one.

It just means that Capcom is spending less on each game because all they're doing is re-hashing old crap.

Exactly. And for the time being that still works for them. It may not be as appreciated by the gamers, but it's cheaper and easier for them to develop a port or slightly altered version of an existing game, which they can then move almost as well as a highly hyped good new game, thus resulting in higher profits. That's not a mistake they're being punished for, it's a seasonal thing that's all according to plan. Just watch all the numbers go up again by the holiday season.

Well, I do know that Capcom lost out on my money. I'm honestly not really in the mood for any fighting games at the moment, and I've never been a Resident Evil/Dead Rising/etc. fan. Really, my favorite Capcom series is Megaman (go figure), and they're not releasing any Megaman games (or even ones I'm interested in) any time soon, so.
Not that I hold a grudge against Capcom, I'm not running the company. But simply that they're not releasing any games that hold interest for me. And I know I'm not alone.
