I didn't expect this one to win, either...mainly because I didn't even catch its thread in the first place! It looks kind of fierce. Darker. Edgier. Gray and brown? It looks awfully...dull. Color-wise, that is. Between this entry, Mega Man's stoic expression at the end of the contest, and the way they toned down his suit for the second round of voting, I worry a bit that they're not really trying that hard to preserve that lighthearted feel the series started off with.
Also...Bright Butts? There's one for the record books.

Well Legends 2 didn't really end in the whole... "Lighthearted" feel that happened with Legends 1. I'm unsure but also curious as well to the extent of where they're taking all of this with Legends 3. and- I was just about to share that, 'cause I got a real kick out of it. I was a little late in bothering to use Chrome to translate the page. Biggest Google Fail ever.

Dashe, I think you're placing waaay too much importance on color. The thing's got more color than Data, y'know? It's too soon to be worrying about that kinda thing, and looking at the newer colorful additions to the cast it all seems kind of unwarranted. The Bright Bats are all pink and green and purple and burgundy etc. I'm not all that ecstatic about whole concept, but it's something I can see alongside and representing the gang, which is something I think too many devroomies overlooked. All of the winners seem to not be overly complex or wordy. Perhaps in the future less really is more. The devs were totally looking for simplicity here. Mascots can't be as convoluted as some of those entries were.

Let's see what the devs do to him. Here's the character rundown for reference. He's got a simple design, though Espiownage did come close to the 300-word limit on both the comments and the details. Mostly personality and interaction stuff. But yeah, there were definitely a lot of mascots out there who didn't really seem mascot-like. Some of them even had full-on movesets and looked more like main characters than mascots. Tinker actually looks more blue than gray when he's next to Barrett. Huh. It must've been the Japanese Devroom layout washing out all the blue in the design.

Ah, so they had finally announced the winners; and first place is Espiownage's Tinker? I must admit that I too didn't expect it to win; as I was expecting them to prefer the entries that looked robotic (Tinker's tail made it look more like a living animal, if it is actually a robot).
Anyways, congrats on the winner.

I'm not loving the design, but I do like that the background neither: a) was based on a really plot-heavy fan fiction interpretation of the elder System/reaverbots/etc., nor b) required or focused on a very specific in-game scenario based around thd character (I was guilty of this one.). It seems like the kind of description one might just find in the manual. Capcom can pretty much just drop him into the game and use him however they see fit. Tinker's also one of the better names for a mascot I've heard. So there's that, too.

Now that I really think about it, Barrett and Tinker is starting to remind me of another video game duo. Or maybe I'm just imagining things. Anyway, I do like the fact that the thread gives info on just behavior and personality, rather than messing with scenarios. The expressions made me smile, and Tinker looks like he does have potential in the Bright Bats getting details from the thread. I hope they try a 3D model of him. Gotta see him in Legends style.

...A ferret? Are you serious? I'm sorry, but I simply cannot be modest when saying that this is the weirdest choice they could have made. I really hope the dev's know what they're doing.

Eh Tinkers okay I guess, it's not one of the ones I would have like to see win though. Oh well, Rivet can be MMLS's mascot, along side Seetufel.

It's not what I was expecting, but hey, I can see him fitting into the Legends universe. Or at least being a good match for Barret. I'm sure they will tweak whatever they need to to make it perfect for the game. Too bad Rivet didn't even get HM, she definitely was one of the ones I was rooting for.

A curious mascot eh. Well, I don't really have anything bad to say against the winner. Considering that the Bright Bats are just a normal street gang, it seems normal to them to have an animal pet as a mascot.
In any case, congratulations are in order for Ashlamuness and Arnie for being in Eguchi's personal picks!

I don't normally like to criticize submissions and the dev teams selection, but I still don't understand this one. Again, Tinker is a good design, it's nicely fleshed out and has nice art. But it doesn't hit me as a mascot, it seems more like a pet. Someone in the Devroom brought out another point. It's an animal (flesh and blood), whereas in Legends animals have never been anything more than animals. Be it pigs, horses, cats, or racoons they all act like animals with no higher intelligence. The Birdbot/monkey mascots are (or seem) robotic in nature. Then there's the bat signal on its face...
I like several of the honorable mentions better. Also, I find it hard to believe that a venus flytrap was better than the likes of Rivet, Pitch's penguin, or several other top notch submissions IMO.
But, it's done and I hope it turns out nice.

Hah. I'm a bit bummed that Tux didn't get so much as an honorable mention. But that's OK. It was fun making him; I had a good time coming up with that. And MLT's help with the artwork was fantastic. (Thanks again, MLT! ) Regarding the selections, I think you have to consider that these Events aren't necessarily even “talent” competitions. It's not a question of which entry is best; it all comes down to what the staff likes the most, for whatever reasons they may have. We're not dealing with professional talent judges here: just a handful of people making opinions. Their criteria can be just about anything. Trying to guess at it in order to understand their selections, or even better, designing entries based on those imagined criteria is silly. People should just focus on coming up with something they like.
