Huh. So if they just changed those logos and made the re-release, all's good right?
I mean, even Nintendo did it for Ocarina of Time when they changed the logo on the Mirror Shield from the Islam insignia to the Gerudo mark for the VC release.

What I'm wondering is what difference is there in Legends 1 that would fail an IP sweep that isn't in Legends 2 or MoTB as well. The only thing I could think of is Corey Sevier's voicework, the YAG tower (which was based off of a real school in Japan, and in the Japanese version the girl in front gives you their number), Dave Hubbard and Jeff Mallory's voice acting (Inspector and Juno), and a bunch of Reaverbot designs that didn't quite make the cut for round 2.

As silly as it sounds, the way they describe it, the offending material could very well be in both MegaMan Legends 1 and 2 — maybe even the Misadventures of Tron Bonne. Capcom said just about everything they made prior to the year 2000 wasn't treated with much consideration for future re-releases/etc. That seems to be the main hang-up for re-releasing this game versus the others. So, maybe depending on the way they handled contracts and securing rights/etc., the same intellectual property conflict that's holding them up for re-releasing MegaMan Legends could be a non-issue for either of the other games, since the latter two both came out after Capcom started doing a better job of covering their asses. It's hard to tell though; they were very vague in their explanation, even now. I wonder if this makes MegaMan Legends 1 qualify as abandonware. Probably only in a very limited sense of the word, but still. Capcom will not and legally cannot sell you this game any more. What an interesting predicament. I'm shocked ( shocked) Capcom is unable to secure rights to a MegaMan game, though. I never would've imagined they'd have this kind of trouble. (Copyright headaches: gotta love 'em. ... not) EDIT: Huh. So if they just changed those logos and made the re-release, all's good right? Didn't see this. They actually mentioned this in the video too. Apparently they're unable to make any changes for PSN releases, since they're basically just emulations. If it were an actual port, they might be able to work something out, but for PSN it's a no-go. That's how they made it sound, anyway.

Capcom Japan can apparently still do whatever they feel like with the game, if the PSP port was possible. But yes, I'd imagine if Capcom America can't sell the game on PSN, they're probably not going to be bringing over the PSP port any time soon. (Although, my understanding of it was that there was already some policy against that, before we ever heard anything about IP sweeps and ancient, poorly drawn-up copyright policies.) Unless the PSP port would allow them to change whatever's wrong, where the PSN one wouldn't — that's a possibility, I guess.

If it's only an issue of graphics, I'd think it would be possible (theoretically) to emulate the game in a way that swaps out the offending graphics on the fly. Either that isn't possible with the PS3's system, the issues go deeper than graphics, or Capcom just doesn't want to do it.

Well less legends is sad news indeed, hopefully all this IP business can be sorted out and more people can enjoy the entire series.
If MML does become abandonware...hmm I don't even know what to think about that.

That is why I intentionally refrained from mentioning "Rockman DASH" at all. Either way, that's too bad for the US/EU community. If there are only better details on it...

Guess this means the only way we'll see a rerelease is if they rebuilt Legends from the ground up. I don't think Capcom's going to be game for that at this point. Legends 3 would have to be some kind of miraculous hit sensation and even then I bet it would be iffy.

So I guess we can derive from the fact that it makes this series of exclusive fans a pretty niche market, huh.
Not that it's necessarily a bad thing.

I think my hopes of playing MoTB are forever DASHed, legally atleast. They most likely wouldn't have released MoTB on PSN anyway. I wish they would have released a Teisel avatar though:(.
I wonder if there is going to be something missing from Legends 3 due to this IP crap.

Actually, do you think it might've been that Frank Sinatra cameo in the beginning of the game, when you inspected the yellow house closest to the vending machine on the north side?

Actually, do you think it might've been that Frank Sinatra cameo in the beginning of the game, when you inspected the yellow house closest to the vending machine on the north side? Applying that reason alone could break a large number of the Ace Attorney series.
