If there's no differentiation between serious RPs and nonsense ones then I'm against the idea. I think the ones we have going now belong exactly where they are.

Of course there's a differentiation! One's pre-planned with a GM set up. One's mostly improvisation, where the players who are active at the time have to work together to keep it making sense. It's a pretty obvious difference. Really hard to miss, in fact.

I mean a literal differentiation, not an implied one. :/ I don't think they belong in the same section. Mumbo Jumbo seems like a good place for the ones that are going on now.

Actually...this whole idea is starting to seem like the "Barton Town" section over at Gaia Online. I can already tell you, not the best of ideas. >.>

I don't see what the big deal about putting them in the same section is at all. You're acting like informal RPs are breeding grounds for Sues, deus ex machinas, and random crap happening without any sort of explanation whatsoever. We've been isolating the 'serious' RPs for years, and as a result, I believe people are intimidated by the thought of signing up for one. Either way, we've never managed to successfully end one at all. Even with the formal RPs, there's also the fact that every single one that's gotten off the ground has contained mostly or exclusively fan characters, so I don't see why you're so averse to the concept.

It may be shifted to be comedy, and it's laid back, but it's an actual story.

I can understand what Pitch is saying...and I think the solution here is to shave off a good bit of the red-tape for creating RP threads in this section. Make it easier for people to start up their own RPs, but within a certain guideline and functionality...and class? I dunno.
I think I'm starting to get a headache. XD

To be honest I don't know what you mean by a serious RP, so I will take this time to go look at the RP thread.

I think Mumbo Jumbo is the place for the ones that are running now, because that's what they are: silliness for silliness' sake. (or Forum Games, although honestly I can see the reasons for either — forum games tended to be for different types of games anyway) I don't understand what the point about fancharacters is. What else would there be? Actual characters? Is that an important distinction? ... right. Anyway. I'm not sure how I got caught up in this, because I'm probably not joining either type of RP anyway. o__o; Hmm. So I'm going to leave now... ∗ wanders off ∗

*sighs* Reposting, dang net crashed as I posted this last time.
I am actually a long time Admin at one or two active RP forums, (Bleach when it was cool, and Persona), I'd honestly suggest you simply restructure your RP as thus.
Role Playing >> Official RP >> OOC RP (MMLS City, ect) >> Memory Storage Unit
By Official RP, I mean that a setting (Legends based) which is the only serious Role-play on the site, This allows you to actually advertise MMLS on RP ad sites as both the great source of MML and as a RP of the series.
Having one official setting also allows it to work easier and let's members join the existing RP instead of trying to make their own which only get one topic or so, where as the Official RP could have a whole section or more for its activities.
Dash could naturally be the RP's main GM, approving character profiles and occasionally setting up stories. As for it's placement, it would be useful to set it around the start of MML3, or around MML2's end, This removes most of the main cast from actively needing playing (but allowing them enough room to appear if needed), so no one has to RP him and it can be more on player's diggers or Pirates.
Just a suggestion ^^;

So...have we reached a decision on this issue or what? I need to know if I should start revising some things around here or not. ^_^;

I'm just not sure anymore. "The stuff" going on down in Mumbo Jumbo could certainly use a spot in the RP section, as (both) are actual RP's to an extent (with more potential to be made). I actually browsed through the RP section a bit, and it was definitely underused, and I was also wondering about Dash, believe it or not. But, I haven't been here long enough to have a terribly important opinion on things, but I do think that a "sandbox RP" section should be made, at least for the sake of the threads that aren't Legends oriented. As it's already been stated, a couple people seem to be against the idea, and I can't imagine why though. Mumbo Jumbo as the threads may or may not be, they still fit under the category "RP", whether you want to add the G or not. These kinds of RPs can start rather slow, but that's why a conflict and solution has to be made along the way, as people think about it. Eventually it'll end, sure, but the thing is that it's "open-ended". I dunno, I seem to be speaking mumbo jumbo to myself right now as well. Sorry I actually read some of the MMLZ Day RP discussion, but being me, I was afraid of necro'ing because Dash seemed to dissapear. lol

Well, once the Reaverbot thing's out of the way, we'll be relocating this place to the General Discussion boards. It didn't help that last week I was kidnapped by work for eight days. Maybe nine. Seriously, it's been brutal. >_<
