Hey guys Im back. Looking through my previous posts, I came off as an asshat. I have been diagnosed with bipolar since then and anyways to cut a long story short I apologize if I came of that way.
I was wondering if anyone else was still interested in this. I have located many textures, like Mega Man's chestplate, as seen above, his right hand, the bottoms of his feet, the life bars, the font, etc,
Im using Project64 1.6 and Rice's Video Plugin. I also just did the beginning areas but I can not find any other textures for megaman.
I am also having problems with the emulator, It constantly crashes and may work 1 out of 10 times. If anyone can suggest a better way to dump the textures, or figure out why only a few pieces of megaman are being dumped, it would be really helpful.
I will continue messing around with this until I can post some satisfactory results, although it would be nicer if I could retexture more of megaman than his face, hand, and chest
Here is a video of what Ive found. I started using 1964, as it doesnt freeze constantly and go buggy with me. It also dumped the textures more completely.
I spent the last hour searching my texture dump and I have found all but 3 textures for megaman. Strange thing is, his model uses different textures for Events(like when Roll speaks to you at the beginning while you wait at the door) than when running around.
Heres what I mean:
I will continue locating textures for the first mission, I feel more comfortable tackling this in that fashion.
As it stands right now though, Ive done nothing at all, and we can now retexture Megaman!
Ok that sounds like a plan, but I have one problem. You want to categorize them, as do I.
Problem is, the names of these files are like this :Mega Man 64#0C903A4A#2#0#B98D9766_ciByRGBA
How would we go about this? When testing the game, you have to put all these files into one folder, so if you have 100's of files, they would be hard to distinguish from each other.
For our purposes, would it be wise to organize everything into different folders. Maybe something like this: Textures>Character Models>MegaMan or Textures>Objects>Trashcan.. I just have no idea how to begin organizing these things.
Well Ive been looking at the walls in the first area, and trying to figure out why there are so many(seemingly) repeated textures.
Look in this amazingly short video(sorry) at how many textures these animated walls have. Not only this, but its only on some of the walls. These textures make less sense the more I work with them. So far just that section of wall has around 22 textures...
By the way I have located every piece of megamans gameplay armor.
Well some good news and some bad news.
Good news is I have found all the textures for every object from the moment you gain control of megaman until the point where you go through your first door( I know that doesnt seem like much, but it was a lot of work)
Bad news is, well, a couple of things:
1. There are thousands of textures to work with, the CAPCOM logo in the intro is split up into around 20 tiny textures.
2. Again alluding to the number of textures, most walls are animated with around 30 textures. Also compounding the difficulty of this task is the fact that even though the walls should have 2 different sets of textures(top wall and bottom wall) they have more like 4.
3. I decided to dump ALL the textures up to the door I mentioned before. This includes the start screen cutscenes and everything else. There are 6,681 files so far. I am now seeing 9 different sets of armor for megaman, each with a slight shade variation from the last.
I will continue my work, but as it looks right now, this is a severely daunting project. Im sure if we wanted to just pick and choose certain textures to fix it would make it a lot easier, but texturing the whole game will take some manpower. Not insane amounts, but more than just me.
Like I said, I have already located all the textures that start where you gain control of megaman and end when looking at the first door you come across.
