Name: Mamoo HP: Variable Location:Forbidden Island, Calinca Ruins, Kito Caverns | |
Overview
Welcome to the newest installment of 'Rate that Reaver!" This installment features our pre-historic friend, Mamoo!
Mamoo's certainly an intimidating fellow, first seen on the rather turbulent Forbidden Island. These guys appear from what seem to be harmless mounds of snow, and proceed to attack Megaman. Despite their size, Mamoo are actually quite fast, as they will charge you the second they get lined up. Should they miss, they'll simply smack a wall, line themselves up again, and charge you once more. There's actually a segment on Forbidden Island where an endless stream of them charges at you, and you're forced to hide in the alcoves of the snowy valley.
While most Mamoo are vulnerable to your standard assortment of weapons, there's a special variation deep within Calinca's ruins that are impenetrable, and they must be corralled into inescapable pits in order to be stopped. Interestingly enough, they can die, although I forgot exactly what I did to pull that off. Needless to say, you'll have trouble completing the puzzle if one of them dies, but you can simply exit and re-enter the room to make them re-spawn.
Dealing With It
Mamoo's fairly simple to take care of. If you simply move out of the reaverbot's line of sight, it'll turn towards you in an attempt to re-calibrate it's attack. As such, circling is a highly effective tactic, and paired with some heavy firepower, Mamoo will fall in short order.
Coming In For A Landing
Mamoo was a great design for a reaverbot. It was an extremely appropriate choice for the snowy tundra that was Forbidden Island, and it was nice to see it again in the minor ruins as well as Calinca's Ruins. Hopefully if/when we get a sequel, we'll see this guy again. Mamoo gets a 9/10 from me!

Mamoo is agreat Reaver, and it's Rush variation was nice too.
I give it a 6.5 though, as I think it should have at least one ranged attack.
The endless stream though you can jump over, proving more and more my thoughts on why they need a ranged attack.
Nice Reaver all around and awesome reference to pre-history in MML2's first-sighting(i'll let you guys figure out the reference lol).

Did anyone else get the impression that Capcom threw in Mamoo to make the game more Megamanesque than the first? I certainly did, as well as with the boss refights and elemental stuff (although that last one may just be a trope).
It's a bit goofy in contrast to the rest of the game's enemies but despite that I still like it, especially as part of the obligatory puzzle room in the Ice Dungeon™ portion of the game, that I thought was actually sort of fun.
It did however make the game way less eerie than the first, so it gets points knocked off for that. Something like 7/10 I'd say. Being called Mamoo and making elephant noises doesn't win it points in my book either.

I like Mammo's design actually, especially those spikes. One thing against them is the fact that they can only tacke you.. theys hould be able to thow bombs from their... erm.. nose, or something... 7/10 to me

You know, after I ran into Mammo the first time I sort of sighed because I felt like the game was going to hit a pattern.
You know, how some games associate the elements with a certain animal? (Wind: Bird, Fire: Reptile, Ice: Bear, Lightning: Feline) Well, I started thinking "Oh no, don't tell me I'm going to be running into animal themed reaverbots now. That's waaay too cliche." (Excluding Karumuna Bash. Awesome.) So after I got through the ice stage I tempted fate and thought to myself, "What's next? A tyrannosaurus reaverbot?"
Saul Kada ruins, here I come.
Mammo gets a 5/ 10 from me. I didn't like the idea of a reaverbot based off of an animal too much. The scare factor for the reavers went down a notch after that.
...and yet those shark reavers still make me scream like a little girl.
