Name: Cannam HP: 1280 Location: Intro Ruin, Clozer Woods Sub-Gate | |
Overview
♪ Spider-reaver, spider reaver, does whatever a... ♪ *clears throat* Welcome to the newest installment in the 'Rate that Reaver' series! This topic is about a reaver that can really take you by surprise, Cannam!
Cannam is a fairly large-sized, spider-like reaverbot that appears in the starting ruin of the game, and again in the Clozer Woods Sub-Gate (in a set of 3). These creatures are capable of walking on ceilings, and will try to land on you if you are positioned under them. They will also drop bombs (that can be kicked) in an attempt to harass you as well. They can actually leap from floor-to-celing rather quickly (and vice versa), and needless to say, are a rather startling sight on your first playthrough. They drop a moderately decent sum of zenny when defeated.
Dealing With It
Once you get over the initial shock factor, you'll realize that these guys aren't too hard to take down. They do have a rather large amount of HP, but their attacks are pretty easy to avoid, and they can't try to stomp on you unless you're directly under them (which is a no-no). The Grand Grenade and Powered Buster, both of which are needed to clear the dirt wall in Clozer Woods, are equally effective in taking these guys out. They're a little tougher in groups, as your attention can be diverted, but you should be able to stomp these spiders out with little trouble.
Coming In For A Landing
While Cannam wasn't used too often in the game, it certainly did it's job in terms of bringing that "creepy" feel to the ruins. I'm not too fond of spiders myself, and I almost jumped out of my skin when I saw this reaverbot. On one hand I wish it had been given a larger (or more effective) movepool like it's cousin, because IMO it's not all too noteworthy in it's own right, but on the other hand it still was a rather interesting design. Cannam gets a 7/10 from me!

I didn't find these things special at all... I can't even remember what it is they do. 7/10 for being alright. Their " cousins" were pretty fun to mess around with, though. A higher ceiling and having control over the room's gravity certainly would have made these more fun.

It was pretty clear from the outset that these guys were implemented just to make use of your ability to tilt the camera up and shoot at something above you. Basically for the tutorial stage. Beyond that, I think they were under-used. Harin, in contrast, takes too long to kill. We need a ceiling-walker somewhere in-between those two models I think.
I remember being pretty freaked by this guy the first time I saw it too. I don't mind spiders in general, but a giant robot spider that turns out to be right above your head but you don't notice it until the last possible moment, yeah that's one for the survival horror genre. Fortunately, they're not nearly as fear-inducing once you figure out how ineffectual and fragile they are.

i give Cannam an 8/10, i like his designe, the way it moves in the ceiling, and how he spin his head it´s creepy, i didn´t fear spiders but somehow he reminds me some ghost/demon of a movie who makes that head spin too.

I'd give it an 8/10. I really liked the way the sounds they made added to the atmosphere of the first ruin. I actually don't mind the colors, because it makes for good camouflage, and I also liked that they look a lot tougher than they really are. It gives you a sense of accomplishment early on.
Plus, spiders are cool.

These, like 90% of MegaMan Legends, scared me as a little kid when I first played it. However, now, these guys are pretty pathetic. I still like 'em though, and thought that they were underused and were better than their MML2 Elysium counterparts.

I'd have to give these guys a 7/10 but they would get a 9/10 from me if they had some type of lunge/tackle feature like the quick dash of the Karumuna Bash Reaverbot included in it's ways of attack.

Hmm, so my older cousin went out and ate so I was left alone in the room with the playstation turned off with the game still inside. I opened it and waited to play the game. I was doing so well in the Tower Ruins until I met this guy. Roll Said to use the R2 button, and I was like, "Where! Where! Where!" while panicking so much (I was so used to the NES's layout I didn't check the shoulder buttons). I decided to rely on the Megaman's auto-aim (shots would fire to the direction of the enemy sometimes), but it was tedious and I shut the game off.
I give them a 6/10. Recently re-reading the post I made at the Karumuna Bash made me think that Shock Factor is not a way to bump up the rating. It's not really that scary, has a weak attack and can be avoided altogether on the Tower Ruins (the ones on Clozer are another story).
