Out of boredom, I made a companion video to the first episode. I call it Megaman Legends Abridged-Abridged! Basically, I watched the video with the sound turned off and did all of the voices myself, literally ad-libbing every single line in the video. As such, any humor value one would get out of the experience is completely accidental; I just wanted to show off my voice, not write a funny script. www.youtube.com/watch?v=KkXqBKunCvIRated for swearing... because I wasn't taking the time to think of anything genuinely funny to say. Anyways, hope you get a kick out of this Space Piano Man! Was all in good fun, obviously. Edit: Included annotations now. Holy **** on a **** sandwich! That was not at all what I was expecting when I saw I had a video response. xD That was actually pretty amusing to watch, though I found the swearing a bit much. I certainly got a kick out of it. Your voice isn't bad either. Holy crap, talk about being an ashsloe to good hearted critiscism and offers for help. If your voice sucks when it comes to characterizing someone, and someone wants to give you a hand with that, i think the least you should do is let the guy try his megaman voice out, maybe it's better than yours will ever be. I'm very sorry if I've come off as an "ashsloe", especially to the criticism. I had been hoping for a much better reception from MMLS since I figured you guys would appreciate something like this more than the average fan. But at the same time, I forgot that you're more than average fans. Some of the criticism seemed excessively harsh and not very goodhearted at all, so I've been reacting kind of badly. As for the offers to help, the reason I'm not changing voices (even if it's a better voice) is not pride, selfishness, or anything stupid like that. It's simple practicality. I don't feel like I can entrust an important character like Mega Man to someone I barely know over the Internet. While making an episode, I'm changing lines, rewording, and rerecording things throughout the entire process trying to get it just right. If someone else was voicing Mega Man, I would always be going to that person asking for rerecords. The only reason I brought in outside people at all was because they're some of my closest friends and family, and I know 100% that I can rely on them. So it's nothing against Legendary Emerald or anyone else. These videos are already a lot of work, and I just want the least amount of stress possible. <_>

You seem to work fiendishly quickly, too. Mega Man's voice seems fine(?). It just reminds me of Yugi Mutou's voice in the early episodes of YGOTAS - Dan Green chose a similar monotone style, iirc. The only thing I'd suggest would be to keep any parts without dialogue to a minimum timewise - stuff like battle sequences. Which will be pretty tough considering the material you're working with. :B But yeah, I'm really enjoying these. The skit with the Mr. Junk Store Man and the KTOX news reporter gave me such giggles today. "--You know what? I do hate snakes! :'D"

I understand why you want to keep the part of Megaman now, Space Piano. You are concentrating on making the videos very quickly, and to do that you must have complete editorial control. However, it just so happens that yourself and your close relatives and family aren't up to the high quality set by (some) other Abridged voice actors. This can be expected, because just about every abridged series uses actors from the internet rather than those that can be cobbled together in your computer room. For the sake of practicality, you sacrifice quality. I guess I understand where you are coming from, though I don't agree with you. Oh, and since you seem to wonder, the fanbase on this site is VERY critical of all fan works. The art section is filled with some of the best megaman related art you'd ever find, but most of the people commenting would still say that something is dreadfully wrong with it. Makes me wonder why my Legends 3 fanfiction was as well-received as it was.

We don't have many good writers, that's why it was well received, because there is practically no one with a good background of writing skills that's willing to give serious critic.
And i have to apologize in advance for laughing at the sentence "I don't feel like I can entrust an important character like Mega Man to someone I barely know over the Internet" because after all, where are you displaying your works? On the internet, and what's the public? People on the internet. What you said gave me the same impact as if you had said "i will keep these videos available to close relatives and friends only", even if both sentences are different concepts.
I have no rights to tell you to do otherwise, but i still agree partially with the guy above, you won't go far if you don't get voice actors, and the best source for this is in the internet. Everytime i make a flash movie i hire actors from all over the world, and it's relatively easy to pick out some good selections. All i have to do is make a thread in deviantart with the title "Female voice actor wanted" for me to get like fifty potential actresses, and most are amazing, might i add.

That's just it really. From big fans of MegaMan Legends, you'll get a lot of criticisms when something's off. Like Tron's voice: it doesn't sound like Tron; being a Tron fanboy myself, this kind of stands out to me as not so good. Contrast it with whoever's doing your voice for Roll — which is practically perfect, btw (you haven't got Tracy Ryan locked up and forced to read lines have you?) — and the comparison is not kind. That's it, really. Try to sound more... Tron-like?

You can learn how to make a better abridged video by following the examples of other high quality parody videos. For instance, one of the newest great Abridged series I found is Sonic X abridged by Psyguy, maker of the Sonic Bastardized series. www.youtube.com/watch?v=JZ21hY85pc0Rated for swearing. Basically, this video does a few things right that yours doesn't. For one, the music isn't just being recycled from the game/show being parodied. All music has been replaced, many times by the songs from Sonic's past. Even almost every sound effect has been replaced with something nostalgic. I'm not saying you have to go that far, but a much wider range of music tracks in your videos would help alot. Then there is the quick pacing. All throughout the video, it only ever drags on one specific moment, for comedic effect. There are also never any black screens that last up to two seconds, and generally, the creator refrained from having the characters nearly static on the screen talking while the camera didn't move for long amounts of time. Finally, I brought up this example especially because the writer and creator of this series is also a great voice actor and does the voice of Sonic himself. But he didn't just relagate the roles of the other characters to people that were his close relatives, he got all of his friends to help him. The difference here between Psyguy and his friends and you and your family is that every in this show is a good voice actor (with the exception of Rouge, who is purposefully played badly). Roles that neither Psyguy or his cast could fit were given over to online voice actors. It took a long time for just this episode to come out, but it shows in it's quality. You cannot expect to make another abridged episode every week, like you plan to, and think it'll really take off. Parody videos take time and effort, as well as the collaboration of others. If you wanted to do everything yourself, you would just write a humor fanfiction, not make a video series out of it.

Look, it's not simply a matter of practicality over quality. Even though they're my friends, I wouldn't have asked them to help if I didn't think they would do a good job. And as far as I'm concerned, they did! I don't understand this at all. Yes, I'm displaying my work on the Internet, but what does that have to do with anything? That's just it really. From big fans of MegaMan Legends, you'll get a lot of criticisms when something's off. Like Tron's voice: it doesn't sound like Tron; being a Tron fanboy myself, this kind of stands out to me as not so good. Contrast it with whoever's doing your voice for Roll — which is practically perfect, btw (you haven't got Tracy Ryan locked up and forced to read lines have you?) — and the comparison is not kind. That's it, really. Try to sound more... Tron-like? Oh, so that's the problem. Yes, I'm aware that Tron doesn't sound like Tron. Neither does Mega Man. Or Teisel. Or even Roll, really. Imitating the original voices was never a priority. Early on the Inspector's voice was very close to the original. I recast him anyway. I guess I should have known that fanboys would jump on me if I did this with Tron. So if your main beef with the voices is that they don't sound like the originals, just keep in mind that they're not supposed to. You can learn how to make a better abridged video by following the examples of other high quality parody videos. ... You've highlighted the very reason why I almost didn't call this Mega Man Legends Abridged. Being compared with other abridged series with the high expectations that come with it. I said at the beginning that I'm new to video editing, and you expect something of that quality? If someone else wants to make an big-production abridged series, be my guest. I'm just doing this because I think it's fun, guys. The only reason I called it Abridged is because that's essentially what it is.

Well, I think I'm done with this topic. OP has made it abundantly clear that he won't be trying to improve the quality of his videos at all. Good for you; go have fun. Just don't expect us to care anymore, since you've thrown away perfectly good and plausible advice.

I just saw the three videos. It is hilarious, please make some more. The jokes are indeed funny.
In episode one, the highlights I liked when the reaverbot boss said he should've painted yellow, when Roll said she sold the sprinkling system, when the inspector told them about smuggling monkeys, the jokes about apple market name and its shops, the junk shop owner calling MegaMan Hippopotamus instead, the wife saying their newborn will be named after him, the newborn's reaction to it, the junk shop owner car tickets, getting hit with the bus, also MegaMan getting the Hammer Arm upgrade.
In the second one, I liked MegaMan's entrance of City Hall, Paprika's (heartless) mocking of our MML3 situation, MegaMan getting rid of Tron by saying Paprika came back, MegaMan mocking the US version for not allowing kicking, the reporter saying she's so happy, MegaMan being embarrassed by gramps screaming inside City Hall, "Oh yeah, I saved the city!" and the junk shop owner interview.
I liked it for it's humor, it doesn't have to have high video quality, as long as most of the jokes are original and hint to something MML-related, then it's doing its job.

Oh my that had to have been the funniest thing I've ever seen! I've only watched the first one so far but a couple of things I found funny were: the hammer upgrade with the classic MM music and Megaman getting hit by the bus. Keep it up. BTW: I'm quite fond of some of the voice acting. I like Roll and Trigger but Barrel and Tron were like Edit: The second one was funny too. I love the cop whose voice makes him sound like a bumbling idiot. Anyway I liked it in general (1.5 was funny too). Can't wait to see the future of this series. Oh P.S. the servebot in the red blumebear was funny just for the deeper voice. Keep it up!

I don't think Space Piano Man ever acted like an "ashsloe" or asshole or whatever you called him. He just doesn't want help right now, and it's his series, so he can do what he wants. I think he declined the offer fairly subtly, actually. Anyways, I think it's pretty funny. I'm sitting here watching your vids in between my college classes, so yeah... XD Also, on Youtube, I rated your parody of Space Piano Man's video, Hidoi. Not bad. Kinda funny.

Well, the plan was to release episode 3 tonight, but that's not looking too likely. I lost several recorded lines when I accidentally erased my laptop's filesystem (oops : . It'll be up as soon as possible. Thank you to everyone who commented. =) Well, I think I'm done with this topic. OP has made it abundantly clear that he won't be trying to improve the quality of his videos at all. Good for you; go have fun. Just don't expect us to care anymore, since you've thrown away perfectly good and plausible advice. If I didn't care about improving, I would have released episode 3 days ago because it's been essentially "done" for some time now. Instead, we've been focused on rewriting and rerecording much of it and trying to make it better. I appreciate people giving me advice, but your advice has sounded (to me at least) like "This is what other series have done, so you should do it too if you don't want to suck." I care very much about improving, but if it means having to give up my sanity, then I'll stick with the resources I have and try to make the best of it. This is my first project like this, and I don't feel ready to manage a large-scale collaboration video series. Oh, and for the record, I had seen that Sonic X Abridged video before. I didn't like it that much.

A bit of a filler update. www.youtube.com/watch?v=d3G9JjSNtJwIf anyone's curious about how it happened, I used a code to stop the boat repair cutscene. MegaMan's ladder animation kept going though... xD

Nice use of Eye of the Tiger. XD I lol'd.
I rather liked the bit at the end too. I've never understood why the refractor in teh Cardon Forest wasn't booby-trapped.
