Oct 6th, 2008, Mir@k wrote in a PM: If you remember this exchange, then hopefully you'll forgive me for not posting sooner. Surely you can understand that someone expecting to see a finished game in early October would be a bit "WTF?" when a thread for said game opens up in mid November, and watch it with a raised eyebrow as it says only 30% complete by December... @.@ Maybe it was just a miscommunication.
Anyhow, I'm here now, so Chiz would appear to be the last desired holdout. is my opinion really worth signaling me out? o.o
Concept: The idea of making a mini-game devoted to kicking Paprika is excellent, if I haven't said so before. Little games like this are what I would personally love to see more people get into, rather than ambitious projects that go nowhere for all the obvious reasons. Short-lived appeal though it may have once it's done, I think it will be well appreciated and enjoyed and I'm certainly looking forward to it.
Music: Actually just listened to the two themes for the first time tonight, both good. The title piece was shockingly short, but it actually works perfectly and suits the image of the game I think.
Graphics: I must confess I'm a tad disappointed here. It's not that they don't look good, it's just that they don't really look like Downtown. Of course they resemble Downtown, but to my eyes it doesn't look like you really took the time to try and make them accurate... Then again, my eyes have stared at the Downtown textures a LOT in the past month and a half while making it for Alternate Trigger @_@ so I'm probably just really picky on this particular area of Kattelox.
All in all though, yeah, it looks like it's going great and I'm hanging out with the crowd of people who are eagerly waiting to kick some puppy.

If you guys wish, you can take the template (last one) and add something. If you pass it to me, i'll add it to the game.

If you guys wish, you can take the template (last one) and add something. If you pass it to me, i'll add it to the game. Hmmm...alright. Here's a few Kattelox Times signs (and a bonus non-KT one) for the game. The game seems to be coming along alright...will be interesting to see what becomes of it. Seeing as how Paprika is almost our own equivalent to the Duck Hunt hunting dog, this sort of game, I figure, is long overdue. Don't consider this contribution any sort of sign of recommendation or approval, though...I reserve the right to make my final opinions on the game when v1.0 is released.

A small contribution I did as a favor... Mir@k told me not to update this thread for him, but I thought you guys might like to know he's still working hard at this and making some very interesting progress with it.

I'm actually glad that we got an update, even a vague one, and please tell Mir@k that.

Mm, yes. Any disappointment that I may have had with the Downtown is now overshadowed by the Apple Market. It looks fantastic. Little personal touches are great too, DASH3 LOL NO and whatnot, though I wonder if he might consider changing the music store poster to honor Legends Station's most famous yet still under-appreciated composer/remixer, Dash Myoku.
If suggestions are being taken on the Electric Goods Store window, it might be a good place to stick something funny (as in what the heck would that be doing there?) or totally unexpected (a reaverbot silhouette maybe?). Keeps ups the goods works.

That's weird, i clearly remember telling B-R-E-T that i did not want anyone to update my thread. Whatever.
SO. It's time to answer the replies i didn't before:
Replying Fab's Posts Here:
No, it's not miscommunication, i *did* have a game done at the time. It was what i believed was the first version ever of kick paprika. The art wasn't pixel art, was paint work, the music was midis from this site and i coded everything in game maker.
The truth is, i had some guys play it as beta testers and all of them were thankfully merciless at saying how crappy the game turned out to be, the gameplay was buggy (megaman kicked and paprika was launched to the sky two seconds later, paprika sometimes stuck to the floor isntead of bouncing, the game didn't stop when paprika was on the floor, etc etc etc). I felt so bad at what at first i thought was a funny parody of the game scene because at the end it wasn't really a good game, so i decided to do everything correctly, and for that i had to start the project from scratch.
Yes because you are one of the extremely scarce people that i know for sure that they'll know what they're talking about when they make critics.
I dont know if to use those pieces or if to make an entirely new song from scratch that's not just a remix/remake of a legends song.
This of course, is on purpose. You see, when i first started drawing the art for the game i was using some screenshots of the game for reference while i drew the sprites, as i progressed i wasted hours and hours of hard work and i felt proud of the result, the result was completely identical to the screenshots! =D Then of course, someone in msn gave me a texture pack of MML1 and Oh Lawdy Lawd, you know what happened? The texture for the first house i made was not just similar: They were the same. That made me angry, i mean, what purpose does making the art from scratch has if i can save the job by just plasting the textures in a map? From that realization, i decided to make sprites that resembled kattellox, but that at the same time were nothing similar. That way hardcore legends fans will know the resemblance, but my art will still be new and fresh.
Same happened with the apple market, only that in this time i was loyal a bit more with the original pieces. I still wouldn't be happy if i didn't add my personal additions though, thus why is actually pretty similar to the game's market.
I'd have to say "no", since this game is also for the public and i don't think much people will get the joke/reference/cameo. One obscure reference is enhough (the Kattellox Times box), and even that one can be interpreted as something more than just an inside joke from the legends station forums.
I'd wish i had the energy to draw more on the Apple Market, if after making the next area i feel like doing it, i'll see what i can put in it. Thank you very much for your input and i hope that you continue to post here when updates are due.
@eric Chiz: I'll keep them all just in case my sprite swapping code does work, if it doesn't i'll end up using one of them at least.
Thanks everyone for the input. Now i'm working on the Kardon forest area.

Harsh...granted, 90% of Myoku's stuff never gets beyond a 50 second WIP, but I wouldn't call him a joke... Well, whatever works...I mean, I wouldn't be offended in any way if only one is used in the final. Judging by the direction that the dog will be travelling, once he gets passed Apple market, he'll be going down the path a ways, then hitting a very forested area, and then hitting the boxport, then more heavy forest, and then water (which would go on for a very long time). You could have buoys marking the distance out on the water, but other than that, I can't see of anywhere where you could go with it. Other cities might not be realistic...the only ones that might make the most amount of sense would be either Manda Island or Calbania, depending on where you think Kattelox is (although Kattelox should be bigger than Calbania, all things considered, and Calbania is quite large on the map.) Of course, having Paprika skipping off the water might be fun a few times.

Harsh...granted, 90% of Myoku's stuff never gets beyond a 50 second WIP, but I wouldn't call him a joke... I didn't call him a joke either, a cameo is obviously source of comedic reference, i didn't mean it as if what he does is a joke. But anyway, what i meant, in all honesty, is that nobody* knows him and nobody will get it. And that sounds even meaner. Oh well. *Maybe the guys at the legnds station and uh... Maybe someone else...?That's good to know because i honestly don't know anymore when to talk using suave voice and when to talk normally. I'm trying to make the boxes spawn at random sprite instances, but i have yet to see if this will slow the game or not. Paprika's final destination is the sea and nothing more. Hehehe. That's right, nothing more at all. Nope. ;P By the way you guys will love the sprites.

Small teaser for what's to come: NICE. NICE, I SAY! That is an awesome sprite rendition of Jim's gang, if ever there was one. ...and I thought you said you didn't want help. If you change your mind, I can do pretty decent natural environments like trees and hsit like that.

If you made three different trees of about the size of this wall, i'd be eternally grateful.

Dunno if this is on par with what you were expecting. It's roughly the size of that wall... from ground zero to almost about what I assume is the top of the screen. If this isn't up to snuff, just consider it a test. I know my pixel art is kinda rusty.
