Okay, to be honest, I don't watch a lot of anime. I've been watching Slayers since the mid-90s, though, and I think I love it more now than I did as a kid. So. Who got to see some of the fansub of Revolution before Funimation dropped an atomic Cease and Desist order on it? What do you think of that little stuffed animal thing, because I'm honestly up in the air about it. On the one hand, I hate it when animes add a character that's an obvious merchandizing shill, but on the other hand he's actually kind of interesting and I want to know how he ended up the way he did. Cursed sorceror, maybe? Will Gourry get to do anything useful in this season without his sword? 'Cause he got shafted during season three. >( And, true to form, I'm stuck on something utterly trivial and useless: Xelloss' teleportation animation. Okay, so in the second and third seasons, when Xelloss teleported he just kind of...implodes. And I don't care what anyone says about 90s animation, I thought the effect looked wicked cool. In Revolution, he dissolves into sparks, like a fuse burning. This teleportation is a little too computery-generated for my tastes, but I have to admit...pink and purple sparkles? Totally appropriate for Xelloss. It looks like this: community.livejournal.com/capslockslayers/2008/08/03/ Yes, the only picture I could find is a macro. Ignore the capslock and be mesmerized by the sparklies. So sparkly...

I heard about the series a while ago, and it's fun, from what I've seen. This new season/revival thing sounds pretty cool; I might have to watch it sometime.

It is fun; it strikes a delicate balance between epic and silly, whereas most animes lean much too far to the epic side for my tastes.
It's sort of like Legends that way. If you get to see the characters being goofballs, you hate to see anything truly bad happen to them. So in a way it makes it more exciting than a Serious Business anime.
The new season is fabulous, but it's kind of a double-edged sword in that the old seasons are a lot harder to find. You used to be able to YouTube the entire series, but now that new episodes are being made again Funimation has been throwing its legal weight around. Hopefully that means they're thinking about re-releasing the old seasons, but you know how this stuff goes...

I've only watched a few episodes of the original Slayers, and I've heard of Xelloss through a friend. Does anyone think that he looks just a tad little bit like Juno? Frankenpetey's current avatar sort of does.

Not only that, but his Japanese voice sounds a bit like Juno as well. And they've both got that constantly smiling, constantly polite thing going on.
Hmm.

Hey, perhaps that means...Xelloss is an alternate reality Juno! (Or the other way around!) ....hm, nah.
