So what were the WORST forums you've ever registered to? Me? WITHOUT A DOUBT..... Simon Wai's Sonic 2 Beta Forums. There are so many rude people there that I wasn't promoted to becoming a full member there. So I registered to a new account and I got banned.

Gaia Online. Wow, what an amazingly cool concept! They've got cool customizable anime-style avatars, a fishing game, houses, and a planned arena, and.... ?! You have to post to get points ?!
They seriously have specific forums for spamming because that's how crazy the system is, and people are appointed topic-bumpers in their guilds.

I haven't been to many, but good lord, the worst on the face of the... digital earth... or Terra... is definately the Gaia Online boards. You get a cute little anime character to represent yourself- -AND THEN HE FEEDS OFF OF THE SOULS OF THE CORRUPT, AND EVEN YOUR OWN! GORGING HIMSELF TO THE POINT OF GLUTTONY, IT WON'T STOP UNTIL *bump* IS THE ONLY WORD IN YOUR VOCABULARY! YOUR LUNGS COLLAPSE, AND YOUR ONLY SOURCES OF NOURISHMENT ARE THE PATHETIC GP YOU RECIEVE FOR YOUR POSTS ON YOUR FAVORITE GUILTY GEAR CHARACTER, GONE IN THE BLINK OF AN EYE, UNREAD BY A SINGLE MORTAL EYE!!! Yeah, definately the worst.

iirc, ACTUAL posts are possible on Gaia, and the amount of gold may be dependant upon post length(I may be mistaken on that end though).
The only problem I have with Gaia Online is that it's too large. It's hard to really get to know the people there since at least a thousand join each day. And since a lot of those people are the n00b type that've just hit the net, there're a lot of total garbage topics(at least there were last time I was there). I certainly managed to get something out of it though. I don't go there anymore since there're too many people. But it got me into a few animes, and gave me some new perspectives on animes I'd wathced so it's cool. Take what you can and leave what ya don't need. It's not all bad.
As far as bad forums go, I must say I cannot STAND people who make forums that don't run corresponding sites. Why? Because they're rotting SPAM pits, made just because people didn't like the rules at another site. I'm not gunna mention which in particular, but there was this one jackass that got so sick of being banned that he went and made his own forum, for other flaming ass holes! And they sat around there bragging about how they got banned. <.< There're other forums, maybe not completely like that, but more like "So and so's forum is too harsh. Come here if you wanna talk about Such and Such without getting in trouble for 'spam'."

Yes, like any other place, I'm sure there are those who would try and pull it out of the stewing, festering mess in which it is now enshrouded. However, it was a highly flawed idea to start with. The idea of encouraging people to post and post and post as the only way real way to get gold was terrible. There's no way it could have succeeded. I'm sure there's a few who post seriously (a lot of Guilty Gear posts are very pertinent), but it was just a bad idea from the beginning.

It's not a bad idea. Since it's basically encouraging people to express their thoughts, however, there are and always will be people that take advantage. I'm not sure if it was Gaia, but I've been on another forum that gave you gold for each post and if the post was decent length you got more than if it was like two words. It's not a stupid idea, there're just stupid people. There're plenty of smart people on Gaia though. When I was active on Gaia there were people writing like two-three page ideas in Extended Discussion. Really picked up a lot from them. They deserve all hte Gaian Gold in the world. An idea isn't bad because people will take advantage. If that were the case, the internet as a whole would've been deemed a bad idea a long time ago(everyone thinks this illegal file sharing business is something new, when really it's been around for years and years... ). Like anything you have your good and your bad, and - as a certain long blonde haired fellow once observed - you can't have good without bad.

I know a lot of people took it very seriously, and I've actually met a lot of good people on there. Many of them had great senses of humor and good, unique avatars. I'm not saying it was a bad idea as in it was a stupid idea, I'm saying that in any situation such as this, they should have had the foresight to know this would happen. As you said, there are always people who will take advantage of good things. Therefore, while the avatars are good and having customizable anime forum avatars was a good idea as well, they really needed to consider better the method of obtaining gold. However, at this point, it's irreversible.
It's a lot like Gunbound, in some ways. They let you have a fun little avatar as well. But, like Gaia Online, they made a few fatal mistakes which completely ruin the system. For one thing, avatars improve stats, which makes it so that whether you like pirates or not, you're invariably going to be a guy in golden or devil-like armor with a big golden hammer and a pheonix on your shoulder. It also encouraged greed. No one wanted to play long enough to get all that gold (including me, they made the avatar system ridiculously expensive), so a large handful set to hacking. Now, hacking is completely rampant, and everyone on the block has the best equipment. The reason I compare all of this to Gaia Online is that it really would have been a good idea, if just they'd worked that bug out of it.

I can't believe that Neopets hasn't come up! That is BY FAR the WORST board EVER! Every single thread there is "Girlz Chat (boyz sneek in)". Many people here can attest to that. It's just full of garbage and n00bs of the lowest order! If you ever feel like a good laugh, just take a look at the boards.

That's the same problem with Gaia, everybody begs shamelessly as though that was the only way to play the game. "oh em gee i got 100000 np adn cant bye medicin" And their typical conversation. "I hate old people and babies, let's send them to the moon!" And they actually have people AGREEING. And the language. And other stuff.

I play Neopets like almost everyday, and once in a while I check to see how the Neoboards are. It's really funny to see those "I'm Hilary Duff!" or "I'm Pregnant!! " boards XD Some boards like the Quest boards are sometimes decent...but they usually have their freaky topics as well. It's best to stay away from the neoboards at all costs, since most of them beg for ANYTHING. 0_o

Well, see, this one time, I was looking up some stuff for Megaman Legends, and I happened upon this site. It was a very good site. They layout seemed professional enough. There was an air of refinement about it. The data was, as well, very accurate. Then, I traverse to its forums on one pleasant day to find a bunch of neoboard-hating lunatics.
... I’m kidding of course! Mostly. o.o
I wasn’t planning on posting here, these being the only ‘forums’ I’ve been to, but I couldn’t resist once the topic of the Neopets’ boards came up. Clearly, you all wallow in the sad ignorance that has so recently plagued its greatness! Really, anyone who dislikes those boards is clearly looking in all the wrong places. Or in the wrong time period. Before I came here, I frequented to the BD chat. I still do, at times. Just much less often these days. It was really the only one I found worth visiting. Let me assure you all that there were/are some truly brilliant people there. Brilliant enough to keep me coming back for more then two solid years. The problems you speak of were only found on the lesser boards; we were above that, save the occasional attempt at mockery through the creation of a similar board in which everyone would reply with a series of badly spelled responses. It was a haven for anyone who enjoyed quick-witted conversations about nothing in particular. I, only having been there for two years, have not ever seen the place in it’s prime, which was at least a couple more years before my time, but I was still able to catch a glimpse at what it was back then.
Unfortunately, these days, it is rare to ever come across the remnants of what once was. Most of the old crowd is gone, and the new generation of players is corrupted by logic and reason. It’s completely different now, as though it’s a wholly different place. It was really a series of unfortunate events over a long period of time that caused the chat to slowly degrade. The campaigns that caused a flood of new members, the string of unfair freezing, the deletion of the General Chat, which caused people of the “give me stuff” and “a/s/l” variety to spider in every direction, the growing apathy towards the place that resulted from all of this... It’s a sad, emotional tale, if you care to believe what I say. At one point, one could enter the chatroom at just about any hour of the day and find a myriad of wonderfully entertaining, completely random boards to post on. It was a close-knit community where friends could get together and discuss things entirely irrelevant to everything but their own conversation. As one person put it, one day, in the distant future, what should happen if one person, by sheer luck, should come across the lookup of one who was once part of the chat’s community? A dusty, forgotten account, abandoned by its owner. The finder would look upon it, and ponder the meaning of this lookup. He would see clues; evidence that the owner of this lookup was once part of an entire network of people. Then, the finder would simply disregard it and continue on with the rest of the site, none the wiser of what it was that he had just seen.
It’s a tragic thing, watching something that you are so fond of fall forgotten. Despite what it has become over time, I would never speak badly about it. Not after the countless hours of amusement it offered me. And not amusement in the manner that I laughed at their stupidity. There was some of that, but it was very deliberate. I could probably sit here going on for hours about what I’ve seen in that chat and what people I’ve met, but I've stated my case.

Psh, what are you guys talkin' about. Gaia is the shiznit...
Well, it use to be before all the little kiddies thought it'd be cool to look stupid online and what better place than somewhere you customize your little avatar. Seriously, Role-playing was really enjoyable until little kids started going on there. Now? I just go there to either flame people or make dumb/literate threads in the Chatter Box.

Yes, I guess it must just be the new wave which spoils message boards if both neopets and gaia online used to be respectable message boards. Wait a minute... aren't I part of a new wave? That's no good.
The Interordi got some big waves of new people all throughout the last year or so. Some of the board veterans seem very irritated, but really, most of them aren't so bad. I'm surprised we never really get anything along the lines of spam here or there.
Both Neopets and GaiaOnline are really nice games actually. I played Neopets for a long time, although I never really go on anymore. I actually have a Golden Zafara, a Shadow Shoyru, a Silver Shoyru, and a Speckeled Usul. ;D
But I don't play much anymore.

No, no, no. With all this talk of Neoboards and Gaia, I have not yet heard one of the WORST mentioned. You have not had torture until you've been in Hell. (Click that link and look around- I dare you)
