For those who don’t recall (or who, like myself until recently, never knew in the first place), the Capcom Special Selection soundtrack was released some while back as part of a promotion, and came with an artbook containing some illustrations and concept art from Legends 2. When GSG informed me about this, I was very interested in seeing what exactly the artbook contained. Heavens knows there must be more concept art out there than we’ve been able to find and document around here. She was in agreement. So, naturally, we turned to the internets for help. Unfortunately, pickings were slim; downloads pertaining to the soundtrack could be found in abundance, but we just couldn’t dig up anything about the artbook. It was almost as though people were going out of their way to deny its existence. Occasionally we’d get some low-quality snapshots, little nuggets here and there, but nothing outstanding. Nothing complete. Infuriated by the English-speaking internet’s lack of willingness to provide us with free stuff, we started digging around on the Japanese-speaking side. That didn’t go over too well, what with the language barrier and all, but from what we saw, that side of the internet was equally bare of good scans. We couldn’t understand why this was. Downloads for the soundtrack were available bloody everywhere. So why no downloads for the artbook that came with it? It was depressing. At last, we were forced to concede defeat. The internets had failed to provide. BUT NO LONGER. In the end, I just decided to throw my towel in and buy the book from Capcom of Japan’s online shop. Figuring the shipping out was a touch troublesome, but otherwise, it was just a question of money, and I figured I had enough lying around to blow on something like this. Admittedly, it turns out there isn’t that much in there that couldn’t be found around already if you search enough (a few pages' worth of reaverbot and minor character sketches I’d never seen before was probably the highlight of it for me), but what’s important here is that my curiosity has been sated. So there. I’m not that great with a scanner, but I did what I could without damaging the book or ruining the color too much. Also, this is my first time using Rapidshare, so tell me if there are any problems with the download. Other than that, there you go. And if it turns out that this was already available somewhere, I swear heads will roll.

I think there's plenty of new stuff, and you have attained God status for sharing this! Thank you so much! I bet there are a lot of people who'll come to see this!

Wow, mlt, nicely done! ∗saves∗ You are a god. There's a lot in there that we've seen already, but there was a good bit of stuff in there I'd never seen before. Awesome. If you don't mind I can try to get that into my box.net instead of rapidshare. (rapidshare drives me crazy...) (EDIT2: actually this is too big for box.net. >.< nevermind then)[/size] EDIT: lol @fab

Thank you so much! I bet there are a lot of people who'll come to see this! What's that you've got there? It looks like a bone'r something... Well I return those sentiments. This is some sweet eye candy. The dropship has an airbag in the bottom? Makes sense, I suppose. Concept art for the Skovorod! They make it look a lot larger than it really is with those windows. Bon's unused "Powered Suit" design looks...goofy. Unused Bonne Mechs - The "Kobun Tank" looks like it was reworked into (or is a reworking of) the Glyde Tank, both have that improbably-placed gun on the rear of the pod. The blue cannon that looks like the Matrix Cannon is called "Tora II". Great, now I'll be wondering what that name means. Huh, so that's what the front of Gemeinshaft is supposed to look like. Get a load of the Birdbot Army logo on Mutti and Zimmerman. Spotted some new insight into name meanings in the Wojigairon sketch. It calls his headslam attack "Ojigi Chop", and seems "ojigi" means "bow". It looks similar enough to the first part of his name, so that could be what they were getting at. A big, bowing monster. Those size comparisons with the Reaverbots make some of them look much larger than they turned out. Pretty sure I've never seen that art of the Kito kids before. Or everyone on pages 27-29 besides the quiz-givers. Page 30, I came. Besides's Roll's awesome jetpack and motorcycle, everyone else on the page is named as a Rockman.

You... you get a year's supply of gangster cookies. And all the lovin' I have to give. I dunno what you're going on about saying you were disappointed. This is chock-full of stupid little awesome things, and what we've already seen is scanned in a much, much better quality than what's already floating around the net. Thanks again. EDIT- I just got the reference.

Any idea what it says on Page 31? It looks to me like the original design for Elysium's interior was a whole lot different!

*Throws confetti* It arrived in less than a week? And here was me worrying you wouldn't get it at all. You must've done something right in a previous life. Cheers for scanning, MLT. You're definitely bringing all the boys to the yard with this one. It's good to see concept art of the townsfolk, especially seeing as I can't remember half of them (I cheered when I saw Maria's daughter among them). Also, are those preliminary sketches of Nino Island and Elysium I see there? It's a shame they regurgitated a lot of the manual art, but I'd say it was still worth it for the stuff we hadn't seen before. Then again, I suppose I'll never really know given that I didn't pay for it. And if it turns out that this was already available somewhere, I swear heads will roll. No stone was left unturned. Seriously. :15:

This is really great! The perspective shots are useful, the behind-the-scenes pictures interesting (never thought of the Sulphur-Bottom guards as having a unique leader...). The unused and concept art pics are the ones I like best. Books of this nature never fail to fascinate me, if only because of how they spur the imagination.

You people flatter me. >_> Been a while since I’ve been called a god twice in one day.
Expectations were just too high, I guess. I knew this was just a little promotional thing, not a bona fide, full-fledge artbook, but I was still expecting to be blown away by new stuff on every other page. In the end, maybe only about 1/5 or 1/4 of it was stuff I’d never seen.
That’s still a good bit of stuff; it just failed to live up to the mental buildup I was giving it. :09:
Tell me about it, gosh. The domestic shipping to that forwarding service only took a couple of days, and it was in the states within the week. I have new faith in the international shipping business.
I'd like to know too. Don't suppose we have anyone fluent in Japanese around here? Might be nice to know what all the little scribbles throughout this thing say. Raijin seems to know a smidgen...
Anyway, thanks for uploading the file, Fab. I’ll go and change the link up there in the first post to point to the download on the main site. Still not sure I trust Rapidshare that much, and the Station ought to be faster anyhow.

I'd like to know too. Don't suppose we have anyone fluent in Japanese around here? Might be nice to know what all the little scribbles throughout this thing say. Raijin seems to know a smidgen... Afraid "a smidgen" is right. I can read the katakana names easily enough, but when it comes to translating the footnotes, there's not much I can do. I can point out the words on pg.31 I do recognize: Second picture of the overstuffed island is pointing to "Airport" and "Dock". The lower note next to the pagoda mentions a "bench". And the picture in the lower right corner is titled "Heaven"-something, so yeah, that part would be in Elysium. Not much help, I know. I can verify they have no other recognizable names though, like the crowded island isn't titled "Nino". Doesn't mean it couldn't be the basis for Ruminoa though. I've translated the titles of the other Rockmen on Page 30 if anyone's interested. I think I have anyway. Some of the kanji came out pretty blurry. Don't suppose I could trouble Mr.Milkshake for higher-res scans of just those titles on that page? Colored girl: "Rockman (Woman Model)" Uncolored girl: Combat Model Rockman Woman Type Fat one: "Rockman Combat Type" Man with staff: "Combat Model Rockman" Spiral hair: "Enemy Rockman" Not too enlightening, I guess, and kinda weird that the three uncolored ones have such similar names. By the way, I just realized that "Kobun Tank" on page 11 is just a skinny Leopold MkII (it is called "Kobun Tank" here though, for some reason), but everyone else probably noticed that already. I didn't until seeing them in the video in the last post.

I'll do you one better. Here's the whole page. I scanned all the pages at some sickeningly high resolution and then scaled them down for that pack of scans, so I've got bigger versions readily available. Quality isn't as nice, but they are bigger. Yeah, having someone familiar with kanji around would definitely help... it always makes up like 98% of everything, and kanji dictionaries are a massive pain to use. Props for giving a translation a shot, though.
