That said, I think the biggest snag you've hit with TLT is ultimately a social one--by adopting the Devroom formula, you're going to have some degree of moral obligation to see through to what you asked, at least from the contest winners. [...] but if it were my project, I don't think I'd personally be able to sleep easy knowing I solicited work from contests and then never delivered on it, especially from a fandom who experienced the same at the hands of Capcom and probably developed a lot of trust issues. That's quite true. However, if an athlete intending to run a big marathon gets sponsors to help with travel costs and free shoes, etc. then gets hit by a car and loses a leg, the "moral obligation" to run the marathon is kind of out the window despite other people having pitched in. The runner would surely feel terrible that the sponsors' contributions never went anywhere, but their pain/anger/frustration would be nothing in the face of the runner's own disappointment in having to abandon that dream marathon after all their hard training and sacrifices made along the way. In the same way, we very strongly want to come through for our supporters, but the amount of effort that our Event winners have put into TLT is a micro-fraction of what our staff members have put into it, which is a micro-micro-fraction of what fAB and I have put into it. So, if the day comes that we do have to cancel TLT, no one would be hurt more by the decision than us. Because more moral obligation is exactly what this precarious project needs at this point. Seriously though, by the time you clear the steps of conceptualizing a contest, deciding its rules and what you want from it, writing up its post, spreading word that it's happening, monitoring it and responding to any questions or comments, closing it down, judging its entries, and finally announcing its results, I don't think there's such a thing as a low-resource contest, haha. And these days, we'd be lucky to get more than one or two entries. TLT needs to be well-revived long before we ask for any more community input at that level, I think. When considering an engine rewrite, new technology is only relevant in its relation to determining if it's legitimately harder to proceed with what you have now, than it would be to start over with a more experienced approach. As it happens, TLT does qualify here, given its engine is, um... many years old now. An even more pressing reason to rewrite, however, is when your current engine feels like dirt and is just no fun to play--something I kind of gathered people felt after our last demo release. While "better than nothing" might be viable to some among the Legends fanbase, I'd argue that "nothing" is preferable to pouring years of our dwindling lives into finishing an epic project, just for a few shrugs and comments along the lines of "not really fun tho, what a shame, oh well." We really don't need more of that. With a project this big, that'd be about like flipping a coin to decide where and how you'll live for the next several years. XD There's really no such thing as an easy rush to the finish in game dev, at least in my experience. At any rate, thanks for your support, as always. Here's hoping the next word from TLT--whenever that may be--is more encouraging.

I tried out the new demo 0.2.4 (still got the old one on my hard drive, XD )and I really like the progress so far! Three years too late here but thanks for playing and glad you liked it. XD
How is Tuttle going to get any points to score if his only weapon is a cane? This Balloon Fantasy minigame is meant for using a buster gun not a cane. I suppose the original rules do state "your job is to see how fast you can shoot and pop the red ones", but I don't see why a cane wouldn't suffice, so long as they pop.
Tuttle doesn't stand a chance against revaverbots like Amistal when he uses a cane he would easily get killed. Tuttle can totally no-damage Amistal right now, in the current demo, with nothing but clumsy cane swipes.

Great turnout! Fun and humor feel even more prominent this year than most, making for quite an entertaining lot. Good stuff all around! Dragge : Haha, I didn't know what to expect with my prompt but I certainly wouldn't have come up with Mega Man's own arsenal. XD Most amusing! For anyone confused by my entry, it's in reference to the Yosyonke duck. There was once a question of if it could be ridden after kicking it against a building, and it was the best fit I could think of for "weird yet enjoyable". I hope it provided some good laughs at any rate.
Thanks to everyone for another successful Secret Santa (and Santa Melty for hosting (don't forget to share pics of your new yacht)), and Happy New Year to all!

I should probably retire from these on last year's note, but that wall of text is just so enthusing.

Happy Holidays to all! Solid turnout this year, so as always thanks to everyone who made it happen. Now, better late than never as they say, so let's see about some quick comments for everyone... UltraViolet64 Wonderfully imaginative answer to a prompt I'm not sure I would've known what to do with, executed with fun style and coloring. Nice job. Dashe I don't know my paints, but your main prompt looks to be hand-painted... and quite impressive at that! Always nice to see obscure characters get more love, too. And your anniversary piece does terribly well at capturing the aging process, for better or worse. MegaTuga Tron's legs look a bit ouch, but cheesy box art is always fun. ravenf6 Nice and colorful, and good job creating two contrasting but fun scenes. HF Nice polish all around. Given the main prompt I personally find the joke a bit ambiguous without translation, but safe to say Roll screwed up somehow. Trigger's attire/accessories are a fun touch as well. Santa Melty I didn't even realize the character was Father Bonne (which is a wonderful reference), but I found the pic equally amusing in simply portraying Bon as a strange adult. Anniversary pic made me laugh, too. Good stuff. Dragge I find the environment a bit strange in the context, but nice one going for stop-motion animation. Complete with special effects, even. Space Apollo Oh, my bad about that! Honestly, I am probably the worst person to have gotten that prompt. I have a terrible memory when it comes to NPCs, especially since I didn't give that much of a darn about NPCs who exist only to sell me stuff. I should've really checked, at least. My apologies to Blyka. Thanks for the piece, and hah, that's quite all right. I thought that prompt would be fun for those familiar with the characters, but I guess I didn't think it through for those who aren't. Dashe's theory on him losing a bet works nicely, though. ShadyRounds I'm not sure what I would've done with a "giant candy refractor", but tying it into the Main Gate's... looks like it works surprisingly well, actually. Good job on the voices, too, especially Juno's. -- As for my stuff: ravenf6 Glad you found the game amusing, and glad you felt the feels. Dashe Thanks! No win conditions on the game; it's just a fun little time-waster to finally have a game for SS, so I'm probably just going to leave it as it is (fAB already threw it on the Arcade, in fact--not every game needs online scoring to be amusing, I figured, e.g. Punt or Pet). Initially I was of course tossing around ideas of elaborate score systems, possible "Game Over" conditions when Trigger hits the ground a number of times, variable cutscenes after the fact, and so on, but I scaled it down quite a bit given the timeframe... and honestly, with my tendency to take simple ideas too far it's kind of nice to keep something simple for a change. Santa Melty Thank you kindly! Hm, I hadn't noticed the click-drag issue, but then I didn't have much time to test the web build before submission (and only in Firefox). And yeah, in fact both of my pieces are vector (hence the 8k anniversary for giggles). I learned what I could of Inkscape for the game graphics, so when I finished the game with such little time remaining it seemed like a good route to continue while letting me play around a bit more with the medium.

Despite my best intentions I got a late start this year, but after a few days of intense effort I've finally just submitted my main prompt. Going to try for the premium tonight... which should be fun, seeing as I haven't settled on an idea yet. XP

Ah, glad it wasn't just me that spend an embarrassing amount of time trying to reach that little guy. Also found myself trying to break boxes along with trying to actually destroy the little Horokko dummies. The game plays really well, hopefully, the next build will have customizable pad/stick controls as well. Customizable controls is definitely the top priority at this point, but has unfortunately been waiting on Unity for their new system (which is due out this summer, so I'm hoping it will be ready by the time our next demo is). In hindsight I probably should have searched harder for a good third party solution from the start, but if Unity keeps to their schedule I figured I'd wait and see how it goes rather than invest a bunch of time into another system just for this release. At any rate, thanks for checking it out and glad you're liking it so far! I'd like to see a secret area to make it look like we're exploring and found something cool that other people overlooked, but I'm not sure requesting a secret area really works like that. It seems to defeat the purpose of a secret area. Haha, there may be some truth in that. There hasn't been much point in expanding the demo environment for that kind of thing as there really isn't anything "secret" to tuck away what with the limited enemies and such, but maybe when treasure boxes, NPCs and the like become a thing we'll see about making things less linear. Speaking of which, the dialogue system (which is rather important for said scenarios) is a top priority alongside customizable input, so here's hoping the next demo sees some fun advancements.

Thanks much for the kind words of support and snazzy picture, Digouter! Glad you're digging the project. While it won't be the next demo, hopefully Tuttle will be able to reach one of these times. Speaking of which, it seems demo announcements don't get much notice here these days so I'll just mention now that we're aiming to have Demo 0.2.3 released on May 5th.

Great turnout this year, everyone! I'm gonna refrain from the usual comment on each piece due to both lack of time and lack of constructive opinions on everything, but it was definitely a fun year with some very entertaining entries. Quite happy with what Blyka gave me for Robanukah. Thanks, paisano. [...] Not at all what I was expecting but in the best possible way. The Dreidelnaught is too perfect. I want Mega Man Legends: Hanukkah Edition now. You're most welcome! I think I have a tendency to twist prompts pretty far sometimes, so I'm happy to hear you enjoyed it regardless. And thanks everyone for your comments on my piece. I've never had a harder time deciding on a concept/medium before, so I'm glad my efforts paid off in providing some laughs and giggles. Nothing much of interest behind the scenes on this one; free-hand mouse drawing as I really didn't have the necessary skills to pull off my more ambitious ideas in style and animation. Though I should mention that the Feldynaught reference wasn't intended from the start, and didn't occur to me until I started coloring and decided to use its palette for fun. Hope everyone had a Merry Christmas, and Happy New Year!
As an aside... someone has to give Santa Melty some crap for that ninja-signup. Here I was disappointed that he didn't make it when signups closed, only to see his name on the list despite him not having been on the forums since May, I believe it was. Smooth, Master Melty. Smooth.

Now get out there and channel your inner Shakespeare...or your inner tenth grade emo kid! MISSION START! Not sure I have either of those things, but hey, I'm in. I'll also throw in some judge flattery with another compliment to the snazzy banner art. Quite stylish.
