Hey all!
I'm JJ. I'm a CG Generalist based out of Los Angeles. I work in TV VFX, however I've always been interested in pursuing game development. I want to do it professionally some day, but life takes you in different directions. So recently, I decided to give it a shot and start the journey of learning by recreating the intro segment to MML, all in UE4. It's a beast of a project, but its also a really great chance to learn the mechanics and systems of they types of games I want to make. The intro is very self-contained, with many necessary systems in place, so it is perfect for prototyping something that could easily grow via the community or by me.
Here are some links of my progress:

I've currently got full level functionality in place, and the Mega Man character model is nearly complete, but obviously much more to do and learn. Targeting Systems, Weapon Systems, AI, Nav-meshes, Interactive Maps, Inventory, Cel-Shading, etc... My intention is to bring MML to life using the original concept art as the end-goal for the visuals. Adding a richness and level of detail not possible on the original PlayStation. Legends Station has been invaluable in locating all the reference needed.
My goals for a project like this are 3 fold....
1.) I want to learn UE4 - to make my own games.
2.) I want to show the world how great the MML universe is, and possibly get Capcom's attention to bring back MML3 or even remaster the series.
3.) I want to use this experience to help land a games gig, and/or garner enough social currency to launch my indie title when the moment is right.
I plan to release builds of the game for testing and when finished, release the whole project on the community via Git or Dropbox, etc...
If this sounds cool to you guys, I could really use some help... Specifically with audio. I've pulled audio from both Legends Station and Sky-Pirate, but it doesn't include all sfx libraries. For example, the energy force fields in the opening segment, is something I don't have. I did see a broken link to a large sound library, but I don't think it is there anymore. I could also use some help finding any other image reference not on this site, if there is any. Especially ruins or Flutter details. I think I'll manage either way, but the more the merrier!
My goal is to keep the essence of what made the first game so much fun, while updating the controls, modernizing the feel, and giving it a fresh coat of paint.
What do you guys think?
