If you've been paying attention to Youtubers like Techmoan, you might have seen a video about a mixtape some people have been receiving from SEGA as a promotional piece. Well, here's what it's promoting.SEGA Forever is a cloud-based mobile game system for Android and iPhone that brings you classic SEGA games with leaderboards, cloud support, offline play, and gamepad support so you can play all your favorite SEGA games, from Outrun to Hang-On, from Sonic the Hedgehog to Space Harrier, from Comix Zone to Shining Force and everything in between. The app and games are free, with ads, and an option exists to unlock ad-free play forever for $1.99. The service launches today worldwide.

Oh nice, free games are always cool by me. I'll be seeing if this works at all well shortly.

Maybe this will finally give me incentive to finish Comix Zone. Sounds pretty rad to me.

Gunstar Heroes was pretty rad. Clarify for me, did you say this has netplay linking? Even if not, still great work.

I don't know if it has netplay, but I do know it has leaderboards to track scores and the like, so it may have multiplayer in that fashion.

Looks like there are only a small handful of games out now. I wish I'd had more experience with Sega games growing up, because I'm not sure how to compare it, but the controls are pretty slippery. I'm sure I can get through something if I get stuck in a lot of waiting rooms. I've also read that it's possible to use a wired 360 controller to play it from an Android device using a normal controller, which would probably make things easier. That fake D-pad is weird. The emulator also has three buttons, which seems like an odd number of buttons to emulate. Pretending I'm using a three-button & D-pad controller on a phone is weird.

Well, to be fair, Dashe, the Sega Genesis DID only have three buttons for most of its games. There was a six-button controller released later into the console's lifespan, but it was only required for a few games. I take it you've never played much Sonic the Hedgehog before, not counting games on non-Sega consoles?

I take it you've never played much Sonic the Hedgehog before, not counting games on non-Sega consoles? The only Sonic game I've ever played is the Virtual Console port of the original Sonic. There seemed to be a friction shortage in their physics engine.

Yeah, see, that's a problem you should remedy. I suggest playing 3D Sonic The Hedgehog and 3D Sonic 2 on the Nintendo 3DS, for starters. The physics get tighter in Sonic 2, and the game gets a bit more refined. Arguably, the best experience is Sonic 3 & Knuckles, the combined form of the third and fourth games in the original series. My personal suggestion? Find a good Sega Genesis emulator and download Sonic 3 Complete and play that for a while on your computer, with a good gamepad hooked up. My personal suggestion for an emulator is KEGA Fusion, as it has the highest compatibility of most Genesis emulators, not to mention it was developed by a former Sega staff member who knew the workings of the system inside and out.

3D Sonic the Hedgehog's exactly the version I played, but I'll try the others and see what's what. Thanks.

My friends are saying that many of the games are having framerate issues since many games were optimized for that platform. That might be the problem there.
