"Steven says that; choosing the right; weapon is super important; when you start this game" - Amethyst, first panel. I really wish the full opening theme had a clean recording without people screaming over Garnet's lines to the point where it's completely unintelligible. My favorite song is Strong in the Real Way and this one has a good chunk of Pearl soloing. DeeDee Magno Hall did some pretty weird things musically in Do It For Her/Him, and that was pretty unfortunate. What you're seeing there is part of the lower case "t", I believe. Man, I love every song in Steven U, I get so giddy. I especially love Pearl songs.:y Now that you mention the opening, though, it has often struck me that Garnet sounds strange in it. Or at least the voice actress doesn't sound like she normally does, or like she did in Stronger Than You. I guess it's because she's keeping the high pitch of the rest of the song.

Yeah, I don't think Estelle's got the high notes when she sings as Garnet. Did you see this version yet? That's the one where Garnet keeps getting drowned out. Part of me is jealous Pearl didn't get such accolades. I wish they'd hurry up and make a studio version available!

I liked the audience making a big "aaaw" when they were setting the house up. Also a silhouette of Yellow Diamond! Exciting. Here's something interesting, although you might have already heard: rapper T-Pain, who I honestly don't know too much about apart from some Adult Swim appearances, is a fan of Steven Universe. Apparently Amethyst is his favorite! I thought it was nice to hear, since you don't typically imagine a guy with "Pain" in his name being a Steven U fan. I'm starting work on comic tres tonight. Hopefully it won't be too long before the new one's finished. I might experiment with a new font too, since if you mentioned the semicolon effect, I'm sure other people are having the same issue.

Whoa! Was that character up front with her profile to the audience (During that shot of Jasper, Lapis, and Peridot) supposed to be Yellow Diamond?
Oh man, I am so looking forward to the end of this hiatus.

Yeah, that was supposed to be Yellow Diamond. Unfortunately, new episodes have been pushed back to September for now. Probably for the better. Are either of you in on the Rose-is-actually-a-Diamond theory?

Are either of you in on the Rose-is-actually-a-Diamond theory? Well, at least there's a light at the end of the tunnel! Just more reason to look forward to September, besides all the new games. As for the theory, I do not know the theory, although what little I've searched for Steven art on Tumblr, I've noticed there are a whole lot of theory-crafters. Do tell!

Yeah, the theory goes that there are four diamonds--Yellow Diamond, Blue Diamond, White Diamond, and Pink Diamond--and they're pretty much gem royalty. We know that at the very least, Yellow Diamond is an authority figure to whom Peridot and Jasper report, and the theory is that diamonds in general are about the highest ranking gems you can be, and Rose Quartz is actually Pink Diamond (making Steven a prince of sorts). If you google "pink diamond" and "rose quartz," first off, pink diamonds look more like Steven's gem. The diamonds seemed to be first established here, in this temple where everyone got lost after they got themselves kicked out of the amusement park. Rose is fighting some powerful gems, but she's depicted as about the same size as they are. If Rose weren't someone really important, she'd probably not have been drawn so largely and so detailed. When Pearl takes Connie and Steven to the ancient sky arena to train, you can see this pink, white, yellow, and blue diamond motif. But by the time they get to Jailbreak, the homeworld ship's teleportation pad has only three colors on it. Any trace of pink has disappeared since the construction of the sky arena. So the theory is basically that there were once four diamonds who ruled the gems, and Rose was one of them until she defected and decided to defend Earth. She might have changed her name as a big screw you to the homeworld caste system or something. It's hard to tell at this point. I'm actually wondering what Rose's faults are, because right now, among all these well-rounded characters, she seems to be a little too perfect. She's definitely got to be hiding something.

I see, that is pretty detailed. It sounds pretty likely to me. As for Rose Quartz's faults, I feel oddly as though I heard somebody else question them as well, in the few theory-things I have read. At some point we'll have to hear from someone other than Pearl! Also, sorry I've got no new comic yet. Just finished the lineart today. I've been devoting a lot more time to the Monster Hunter side of that equation this week, unfortunately!

We did hear from someone other than Pearl. Problem was, it was Greg.

I'm pretty sure that besides Pearl, and Greg, it was Garnet that questioned Rose's character (I believe it was during an internal struggle between Ruby and Sapphire in "Keeping it Together"). As for the "Diamond Theory" I've seen posters drop that here and there around the Steven Universe sub-reddit, and I feel like it totally makes sense, though what I find myself curious about most is Rose's military background which gets a lot of attention in the first season; from her massive armory (not sure if those suits of armor were her's, or battle trophies from other generals she killed), to her Quartz Cannons, to the cave carvings almost always depicting Rose in combat with another warrior gem--it definitely says a lot about her, and it doesn't stop there either.
Rose was obviously a very charismatic leader on the battlefield, enough to turn Pearl into her own personal raving fanatic, and influential to the point that even a brute like Jasper openly admitted to admiring the way she carried herself as a warrior. What bothers me most though is the the way Japser spoke about Rose's methods, which kind of implied that she wasn't afraid to reach the moral horizon. ("But this..." Japser picks up Steven. "This is sick.")
