The Master...we call him that because he's the one who created the system we all obey, and because no one seems to know his real name except for the first class Purifier Unit Megaman Trigger. I've always been curious about it. I've tried asking him about his name, but he always says his name is not as important as his principles.
However, when Sera and I asked the Master about his past, he replied openly.
The Master himself is an Elder, the son of a couple of humans who escaped from Terra after their planet suffered massive damage due to the endless wars their race fought in pursuit of peace.
When they arrived on this new planet, which had been previously prepared to host living beings by the government aided by wealthy people, everyone was peaceful and happy. However, as the years progressed, they began to make a distinction between the people who used to have money and power in their old society and the rest of the people who came to the new planet with them due to a luck based selection system. The first group had begun calling themselves "Elders" as a reminder of their superiority as "saviors" of the mankind. Their ship and their planet had been built with their money, after all...
The Master was the lone child of a couple, just like every other child that was born on planet Elysium. This was because of the human race's fear of overpopulation.
He grew up having everything he wanted and was accustomed to behaving as he wished. As a result, he became an egoistic, spoiled child.
Things changed when he turned 20 years old, as he had begun to receive more duties and had less time for fun. The Elders were the ones who ruled the planet and as such, they had several responsibilities, but the Master missed his old lifestyle.
A couple of thousand years passed. The Elders' restoration project was going according to plan. Soon they would be able to return to their cherished home planet.
They began the preparations. Over the last few years, scientists managed to convert the human dna into data, which could be stored and modified on computers.
The journey was going to be dangerous, as there was no clear way of knowing whether the conditions of the planet would be appropriate again. That's why every single person entered into stasis fields in order to make a backup copy of their genetic code, just in case they didn't manage to survive the journey.
However, the Master had different plans.

Oh neat, a story about The Master. I think yours is the first one posted here that's focused on him. Let me know if you'd like a grammar check on it, alright? And don't forget that fanfic submissions are open on the main site! Are we going to find out who that guy in your avatar is in this?

Yes, the Master's past is a very interesting topic. Since the game gives so little info on the Master's background, our imagination can go wild! Nice to see your take on it! I had begun writing a story about the Master myself, but I scrapped it. Well, not really. It became something completely different. Actually, those messages from the Master that appear in Rock's dreams in "Trigger of Change" (my fic) were the first things I had written for that story. It was meant to be a short story with the Master talking about various aspects of his life up to the point of Trigger's creation. But the other ideas appeared, the story went way out of proportions and the Master's messages were reduced to mere dreams . But enough of talking about my story. I'm supposed to be here to talk about your story! I like that you mentioned how they converted the original humans' DNA into data. And I also think that the Master would have been a spoiled child. This part got me wondering... This means that Trigger was already around during TMS. Will he ever appear in the game? Speaking of the game, I imagined this first chapter as kind of an opening movie for TMS. Those movies that play if you stay idle on the title screen long enough (like the opening movie with Bluecher's conference in MML2). This one is in Yuna's point of view, right? Will the next one be in Sera's? If the chapters alternate between Yuna and Sera, the future chapters (the ones after the "opening movie") could be unlockable extras (like the image galleries with exclusive art that can be unlocked in some games). Something like, if the player reaches some specific achievement with Yuna, they unlock a chapter in Yuna's POV, and if they achieve something with Sera, they get a different one in Sera's POV. Okay, I know, just wishful thinking. This will probably be reduced to a mere dream too, but it's an idea .

Oh neat, a story about The Master. I think yours is the first one posted here that's focused on him. Really? Wow! It's also my first post in this section of the forum and my first attempt at writing a fanfic. Let me know if you'd like a grammar check on it, alright?... Are we going to find out who that guy in your avatar is in this? Thanks for the offer! I would be proud. The guy on my avatar is actually my OC Rockman Striker, he has no relation to this story so I'm not going to write about him, but maybe he will make an appearance on the game. This means that Trigger was already around during TMS. Will he ever appear in the game? Yes, he will appear eventually, although I haven't decided how he's going to look like. Speaking of the game, I imagined this first chapter as kind of an opening movie for TMS. (...) This one is in Yuna's point of view, right? Will the next one be in Sera's? If the chapters alternate between Yuna and Sera, the future chapters (the ones after the "opening movie") could be unlockable extras (like the image galleries with exclusive art that can be unlocked in some games). Something like, if the player reaches some specific achievement with Yuna, they unlock a chapter in Yuna's POV, and if they achieve something with Sera, they get a different one in Sera's POV. Wow wow wow! Stop right there or I'll have to put your name on the credits! That's a really nice idea you got there, gotta consider if I can make something like that. Yes, this chapter is narrated by Yuna and the next one will be narrated by Sera, stay tuned!

PART TWO.
When the Master told Yuna and I what he did back then, it really surprised me. The Master always seemed to me to be a noble and kind person. I didn't want to believe how egoistic he had acted.
The Elders had initialized the DNA backup process. Every person on Elysium entered into a long deep sleep period inside stasis fields during the process. One year was the time lapse previously programmed into the main computer; after that time, the Elysian people would awaken.
The Master managed to reprogram the computer a couple of minutes before his father, the Elder in charge of the scientific community and head of the Restoration program, asked the people to begin preparations. His own stasis field would deactivate ten minutes after the backup started, cancelling and skipping the process entirely.
His plan succeeded. He awoke and saw his people peacefully sleeping. He turned, walked towards the main computer, and inputted a few keystrokes. The time lapse changed from one year to one thousand years.
Inside stasis fields, the people would not need to eat or drink water. Because the machine was responsible for administrating the necessary nutrients to keep them alive, he caused no harm by doing this. They were just...sleeping.
The entire planet was once again his playground. Nobody could tell him what to do, and there was no preconception of what he was supposed to do.
He quickly got bored with breaking into the people's houses looking for something interesting to take, eating everything he wanted from the stores, and many other things.
And then he discovered an old robot, a Prototype Anthro unit built by the Elders laying unmoving on the ground. It was still functional, but it had been deactivated along with the many other PA units and Reaverbots so they won't cause any harm while the humans were sleeping.
These PA units were designed to serve the humans and perform basically every job the humans wouldn't want to do, such as cleaning, building houses and even assembling more units.
The Master begin activating every single PA unit he found. He then realized that all of those units would serve him unconditionally as they were programmed to do so. They would become slaves and he would become their master.
Being the son of the head of the scientific community, he had learned many things from the fields of bio-engineering and robotics. He used this knowledge to modify the PA units so they would behave as if they were humans. His loneliness was motivating him to have some kind of "human" contact.
And then we were created; first Yuna and then me. We were his first original creations. We are Anthro units, but we are far more advanced than Prototype Anthro units.
He designated us as "Mothers" and gave us a huge responsibility. I was going to take care of the correct functioning of every system program and unit he designed, and also make sure that the Elders don't wake up from their slumber. That's the main purpose of the Master System.
However, his greatest creation was an artificial life form he called "Carbon."

Silly Master, trix are for kids. That would explain why Sera and Yuna were so concerned about the Elders awakening...the Master would just be in a lot of trouble for running amok with their stuff and creating new lifeforms behind everyone's back!

PART THREE:
Who was the Master? I keep pondering that thought while I explore this planet. Everything looks new to me, but familiar at the same time...the structure of the buildings, the rusty machinery and broken control panels...I can even somehow decipher the Elysian symbols and read it as if it were my native language! But as crazy as it may sound, I feel a strong bound with this person I can't remember well.
Yuna and Sera have given me permission to return to the Master's house. He had a huge library. Most of the books are really hard to understand, something about genetics and robotics. I came here looking for some kind of diary to help me remember, but strangely enough, I can remember a bit of my past just by entering the rooms of his house.
The library, for example. I remember how we used to stay here for hours and hours. Sometimes we used to read some of the books, but most of the time we just had really long conversations about things that concerned him.
There was a time when he confessed what he did to the Elders to me, and how he'd begun to feel lonely afterward.
After some years of tinkering with the androids and Reaverbots, and many attempts to give them emotions so they could behave as humans, he managed to create an algorithm that could serve as a superior artificial intelligence. This AI could evolve according to the android's experience and knowledge. It would effectively influence each particular android's personality and behavior, resulting in unique androids with reasoning abilities and a conscience. Yuna, Sera and I were programmed with that AI.
He also designed a safety switch that would activate in case the unit were to develop negative emotions against the Master or his system. He called it "Behaviour Limiter." This safety measure would also prevent the AI from becoming corrupted, as was the case with the PA Units and Reaverbots, which had a tendency to become aberrant at the slightest influence.
That was the main reason I was created: To become a Purifier unit and deactivate such malfunctioning robots. Of all the Purifier units he created, I was the most skilled. I caught the attention of the Master because of that and because of my loyalty to him. That's what he told me back then.
From then on, he would tell me everything that bothered him, such as the overwhelming guilt he felt for the things he did to his people. He constantly had the desire to awaken them, but the fear of being punished for his actions when they first entered their hibernation always made him hold back.
I remember I suggested that he modify their memories, but he rejected the idea. He feared that he would damage their brains permanently. However, I've brought to his attention the fact that the Elders had made DNA backups of everyone. He decided to use this data to re-create every person. They would come back to life, but their memories would be reset.
He used the pods built for the restoration program to send the artificial humans, which he called "Carbons," to live on Terra, just as the Elders wanted.
In the end, his egoistic behavior evolved into wisdom when he realized, through watching at the Carbons, that real happiness doesn't involve having everything or doing anything one desires, but enjoying the little things, the brief moments of joy that may occasionally arise.
This feeling moved him to destroy the system he created during those 3000 years, knowing that after it was shut down, his people would awaken from their slumber knowing nothing about what he had done. By that time he would have finally passed on, filled with true happiness.

Ah, so the Carbons are "carbon copies" of the Elders! Makes sense! This third part felt to me like an ending, but is it? Or will there be more? The narration sounds like Mega Man Volnutt after Legends 2. TMS future? This feels like a very special unlockable... Something like the secret ending from ZX Advent that only appears after beating hard mode. Now I'm curious about what the Elders would do if they awoke and found everything different.

Silly Master, trix are for kids. That would explain why Sera and Yuna were so concerned about the Elders awakening...the Master would just be in a lot of trouble for running amok with their stuff and creating new lifeforms behind everyone's back! I've always thought that the Elders were the humans who colonized Elysium, and not some kind of ancient alien civilisation. Yuna calls them in the ending of MML2 "the people the Master left behind" suggesting that he used to live with them, if that was the case, the Master must have done something bad to them and thus, the instruction of keeping them asleep. I sincerely doubt the Master had God like powers to create living beings from scratch, he had to have certain base where to start from and that's other people's DNA. The Master itself says to Megaman that "betas" or carbons are similar to humans but slightly modified by him. This chapter was indeed narrated by Megaman during his time trapped on Elysium, these events won't occur during TMS' story though. If the Elders were to awaken during the Master System period they would have severely scolded the Master, just as Dashe says. I would like to thank Dashe for helping me with the spell checks, I recommend to read again from chapter one as there were some mistranslations that may have confused you.

Yuna calls them in the ending of MML2 "the people the Master left behind" suggesting that he used to live with them, if that was the case, the Master must have done something bad to them and thus, the instruction of keeping them asleep. I'm pretty sure she was referring to the Carbons. I really like your idea for the Elders, though. If the Elders were to awaken during the Master System period they would have severely scolded the Master, just as Dashe says. I mean now that the Master isn't there anymore. What their reaction would be if they were to awaken, after the Master System period. Sequel material, maybe? Ah! This completely took me by surprise! I really like these errors XD. Eagerly waiting to know what happens next!

Now that you mention it, she wasn't talking about the Elders.... Anyway, it's not like my whole theory was based on that sentence, or is that so? Anyway, it's still a possible scenario.
That was the last part of the story, this time for real, but I would like to explain next the relationship between the mother units and their servitors, I'm not sure I'll do another fanfic though.

Oh. So, now it's really over . You got me! When I had thought the story had finished, it continued. And now that I had thought it'd continue, it's over! Is TMS what comes next? Because the "in a world covered by endless water" made the chapter sound like it's the game's opening, and the errors sound like the problem that must be solved!
