I know some of you might already be talking about it in the off topic thread, but I believe this needs to be it's own discussion.
It's basically Keiji Inafune's great big tribute to the franchise that made him famous, as well as classic Japanese side scrolling gaming in general, only not another friggin' 8-bit game. (not that I dislike 8-bit, I dig it. But, I can agree to a point that it's overdone.) It's a Kickstarter though. So you'll need to send in a certain amount of money but dammit, this is simply awesome news!

This reminds me of the incident between Walt Disney and Charles Mintz back in 1928, which led to Disney and Iwerks quitting Universal and the creation of Mickey Mouse. Universal wanted Disney and Iwerks to renew their contracts with a pay cut, Disney and Iwerks wanted a raise to make better quality shorts. It ended with Disney and Iwerks quitting to start up their own studio, leaving Universal with the rights to Oswald until years after Disney's death. I hope Inafune's even a fraction as successful as Disney was!
From the look of that kickstarter, though, he shouldn't have too much trouble. It's been less than a day and he's got 100,000 dollars. That's pretty impressive.

Oh man, I'm so hyped for Not Megaman! Did anyone notice "Roll" and "Rush" walk by @2:30 in the vid? Inafune's subtly staging himself as Megaman in the trailer, which is a nice touch.

Oh man, I'm so hyped for Not Megaman! Did anyone notice "Roll" and "Rush" walk by @2:30 in the vid? Inafune's subtly staging himself as Megaman in the trailer, which is a nice touch. not only is it a nice touch, its a beautiful finger pointing 'take that' to capcom, showing that he is still the true owner of the franchise even if they have it one paper. But its not obtrusive. Its not him being an ass, its a man who is calmly, collectedly, stating that he will not be put away and forgotten... and doing it without even raising his voice. Most people might not even notice. This is quiet assertiveness, behind a wall of humility. That's what I like most about it. Inafune remains, even in his assertion of ownership of this concept, humble. As he has always been. Even the way he's going about this project... He's a big name, and he's working openly, as an indie developer, rather than trying to start some huge new company using his own name as collateral. I respect Inafune very much. I don't know if any of you feel the same, but I for one hope he knows that he is respectable for his nature rather than his works.

I was amazed by the sheer amount of Megaman shout-outs in the video. Especially the very beggining and the very end (Inafune on top of a tall building, puts a hat on and at the end he stares at the city and then slowly vanishes leaving his cap behind, even if it is all Megaman2 it is still adorable)
It seems like a really good game so far. But the thing is that this game doesn't tell you it's megaman-based. THE GAME SHOVES it into your face. I don't know if that's a good or bad thing but hey, what do I know?
Another thing that I like to point out is how Inafune dresses. He was always seen with sports-wear in conventions and media conferences... I don't know why but I love his dress code. Makes him feel that he is a regular person like we, but he makes games... sort of.
So yeah. I am really looking forward to this. And apparently I am not the only one! In just one they they already have nearly half of the funding goal! If that doesn't show that gamers care, I don't know what would.

I am really, really happy Inafune gets do what he really wants. He doesn't have to abandon the spirit of the MM games now that he's left Capcom. I expect it to be chalk full of innovation.

I am so all for this, you have no idea. I'm rooting for Inafune (and his team) all the way, and I have full faith in his abilities as both a developer and a person. I also wasn't surprised at all when half of the money was raised this quickly. I mean, it's the creator of Megaman of all things. Seems only natural. XD Though, I do like that he's humble enough to not realize how much money people would throw at him.

I certainly appreciate the look the game has going for it in the concept art. It looks like a cross between Mega Man ZX's art mixed in with Maverick Hunter X like backgrounds. The world needs more 2D games, so I'm always up for this. I have no money to be backing anything, but since it's almost reached $670k in just one day of being up, things are looking swell. Hope it can get to the last set of goals (I have nothing I can donate at the moment), but I'll pick the game up bar none when it comes out.

*Twitch twitch*...Ahahah, I really shouldn't be spending any money because I have to eat and do other important things that are detrimental to my survival as a human being but my wallet just magically appeared in my hand somehow and now I'm on the Kickstarter page and what's this oh now I'm clicking buttons and...*Twitch twitch*
Oh dear. I had an episode again.
...Well, I can pass on eating for a few weeks. No biggie.

In line with my belief that the world needs more challenging platformers, I'm backing this.

Holay crap. He's hit 890k bucks within three days. That's absolutely crazy. Regardless, the best way I'd probably show my support is going out and buying the finished product. I wish him the best, and hope this game turns out exactly the way he wants, and more.

This makes me so happy, though somehow a little sad at the same time: Beck's got some big shoes to fill after Megaman-senpai, but I'm sure he'll pull it off.

I'm wondering if they've hired an English VA for Beck already, because I'd like to give it a shot somehow. >_>
