This is one of those sites that I get, but it's tough for me to care about it since I'm usually not following anybody on it and only post once in a blue moon outside of a recent tear. I mean, I use Facebook more for status updates and whatnot, but that's only for real life friends to see since I use my real name on that.
Might as well post my Twitter handle which is BeanMM. Anyhoo, anyone into the whole social media thing like this? I'm trying to get better at this, but I just feel weird talking to myself more often than not.

There are a couple Twitter topics around here, but they're pretty old by now. And this is the only one in the right section. So yeah. Here's Tau's Twitter topic from last year. It's got most of the folk from around here, I think. I'm following most of the others, so you can probably fill in the rest from my Follow list over that-a-way. (Of course, I'm following people from other places as well..) Twitter's never really been that big a thing around these parts, though. Few people have it, and even fewer actually use it regularly.

I have been see live feeds (?) on some sites and homepages, as well as people who use them as mini-blogs of some kind.
In my case, I have yet to find a practical need for it before trying it out myself (suggestions, anyone?).

Honestly, it is tough. I've seen it used to link accounts together like Youtube or Formspring to show when you've uploaded a video or answered a question, but if you follow them on those sites to begin with, it winds up being ultimately worthless.
The main purpose is to have quick rapid-fire conversations with people from what I've seen, but I'm not good at having discussions like that. I like talking and writing... a lot.

The main purpose is to have quick rapid-fire conversations with people from what I've seen And that kind of purpose is covered by Instant Messengers; which the major ones are also capable of file sharing, VoIP, and then some.

@hf You could post updates about your comic, or something.. I was originally going to use my Twitter to post WIP art/code projects, but, err... I never got around to doing very many. :41: But using it for those types of projects is pretty common. Tau occasionally posts about MMLA. And fAB and Blyka just recently started a twitter for posting updates about TLT. It's kind of like an RSS feed meets social networking, in that context. And yeah. Twitter is the instant message of blogging, if you want to think of it that way.. The main purpose is to have quick rapid-fire conversations with people from what I've seen, but I'm not good at having discussions like that. I like talking and writing... a lot. There's Tumblr, if you want to write more. Tumblr's also a micro-blogging site, but it doesn't have a 140-character limit. It also has a bunch of built-in canned formats for posting things like quotes, pictures, sound, and videos. Although, even with all those features, and without that pesky 140-character limit— from what I've seen anyway —it's mostly even more pointless random insanity than Twitter in the first place. :06:

I'll try out twitter when I get a smartphone, or have a cellphone that can connect on wifi. for me, there's no use using twitter when you have to wait until you get to a computer to post what you want to say. And by then, you may have already forgotten what you wanted to say in the first place.

I completely forgot about that thread. Probably quite out of date now. But yeah, Twitter's pretty cool. There are a lot of interesting people to follow even if you don't say much yourself. Many news sites and blogs tweet when a new article has been posted, making it kind of an RSS alternative.

I completely forgot about that thread. Probably quite out of date now. Aye, yeeah... But most of the folks from around here who aren't on the list aren't terribly active anyway. (Not terribly active on Twitter, here, or both.) Most of the folks I know of anyway.. Like, uhh.. [/sub] :14: [li] Mikey (Doesn't post, just follows, I think?) [/li][li] Arne/Niklas Jansson (Not a regular here, but a cool guy.) [/li][li] General Specific (Following many, but only a few tweets.) [/li][li] TronBonne (At least, I think that's the TronBonne from here? Big coincidence if not.) [/li][li] FatMan (Not very active here, tweets often enough.) [/li][li] AgeMan20XX (Many may not remember his being here, but he's a cool guy. Doesn't tweet often.) [/li][li] PressStart (Tweets. Not quite active around here, but well known enough.) [/li][li] EX (Doesn't tweet often as far as I know.) [/li][li] TheJorsh (Wasn't tweeting for a long time. Really kind of bizarre tweets lately.) [/li][li] Truner (Active both here and on Twitter.) [/li][li] HeatMan (From MegaMan Network.) Also, these guys: [/li][li] Tuttle's Legendary Travels[/li][li] MegaMan Network[/li][/ul]That's about all the folks I'm following who aren't on the list. All the relevant ones, anyway.

I guess that really makes the site pointless for me then. I don't do internet stuff outside of being on this old computer, and I'm perfectly fine with just a regular ol' cell phone at the moment. Still, I could see the appeal if I were trying to advertise a bit more, but there's nothing in that department for me to do now.

I just think that its appeal is spontaneity, and its a bit hard to do if you don't have a wi-fi supported device.
I myself use an mp3 player that can send and receive calls and messages and whatnot, but no wi-fi support.
