This is now one of the reasons why I've decided to get a 3DS ASAP so I can get the prototype and get this game finally green-lit.
I've also been trying to get hype for the prototype at Facebook and other forums I go to as well. I suggest you all do the same!

I think I see where they come from. The big wigs want proof that this sequel is truly awaited by people and want to see how many people we're talking about. Inafune and Eguchi used the arguments that this sequel was long awaited and Capcom is putting that to the test. They don't care about words, they care about numbers. Yes, from a business perspective this is quite an astute move, but as a fan I think it sucks. Though on the flip side if this does go well we'll get a prologue out of it. This is all a bunch of mind games, guys. They want the game to be hyped up, and for the game to be something that can be more marketable and draw new fans in on the experience. When the last game in the series ends on "an obscure cliffhanger", of course you want to reintroduce Legends to new players as a 3D MM game, and one with promise. It's going to be a rocky development, double so thanks to the threats of the executives to not green-light the game if it doesn't generate interest. And yes, just threatening like that generates interest—it keeps the fans ready to do anything, and makes the game look more like a big deal to potential Japanese players. In short, being a dick may just work out for whoever is watching over this game's development. I sure hope you are right. I had similar feelings during the past "OMG the game isn't greenlit yet." They sunk far too much time and money to not go through with it; add to that the bad publicity they would receive for hyping a game, getting community involvement, and then canceling it. However, it think the prototype could be a convenient way of gracefully backing out and recovering some of their development costs (don't throw good money after bad). This is now one of the reasons why I've decided to get a 3DS ASAP so I can get the prototype and get this game finally green-lit. I've also been trying to get hype for the prototype at Facebook and other forums I go to as well. I suggest you all do the same! Yeah, I've been talking it up to my friends with 3ds' as well.

I'm actually getting pretty fed up with this whole greenlit situation. I wish they would just officially greenlight it and then we could all rest a bit easier. I feel this has developed and become more of a stunt to get more attention for the game or something, but whatever...or if they are actually serious that the game might not happen, it's just cruel to leave us hanging for so long. As soon as the prototype demo comes out, I'll get it right away! I just wonder how long it will take for them to tell us the decision for MML3, and how many people would need to get the demo for them to consider it worthy.

I'm actually getting pretty fed up with this whole greenlit situation. I wish they would just officially greenlight it and then we could all rest a bit easier. That's kind of a silly thing to say, because it's not quite so simple. This is part of the process. They revealed the project before it got the green light, and they tried to keep that transparent as long as they could, but it came down to the wire and the higher ups at Capcom still haven't approved it. They're not intentionally stringing us along on some publicity stunt. At least, I don't believe they are anyway. But furthermore, I think it was a bit silly that some people thought that this demo meant the game had already been green-lit. Because since that green light meeting, there hasn't been an awful lot of noise from the DASH team up until now. We had one (very lame) Promotional Ideas event, then the Devroom went dead for a few weeks because of the disasters in Japan. And now that it's come back we've had one poll, and now this. Not a lot's happened since we last heard about green lighting DASH 3, so why would anything have changed since then? I'm just sayin’. Meanwhile, I'm happy to finally have some exact idea of how they plan to gauge these things. (And we get the DASH 3 equivalent of Rockman DASH 2 Episode One. ;D) I'm a bit nervous about it too, but at least we know how it's happening. Unless they say something different after this demo release sinks or swims, that is. Then I'll understand the frustration.

I don’t think it’s that silly. A wish is still a wish, no matter how simple or complex the reality of the situation actually is. I didn’t mean for my post to sound like everything is all sunshine and rainbows, and they are just stringing us along because they are evil, evil people. I meant that the game being a-ok is just one of the many possibilities that could be going on right now. I even said in the sentence after that, that even if they are serious that the game might not happen, it’s still cruel for everyone to be left hanging for so long, so I do realize they may be serious (and most likely are, but we can never know what’s a stunt and what isn’t. ). It doesn’t help that I’m a bit peeved at CoA for not wanting to bring AAI2 over, but that doesn’t really have anything to do with this situation, as I know CoA has nothing to do with Capcom not greenlighting MML3, but I think any bitterness from me must be from these situations.
It must not be easy on them either, having to work so hard, and not know if their hard work will pay off or not. I just want this game to really happen, and the feelings of realizing it may not happen are too much for me to handle at this point. xD

Yeah, seriously. If the game really does get canceled, then it'll feel like I got punched in the gut, except that the pain will never go away.
Whether it's just a cruel way to generate publicity, or if it's actually real, the best thing we can still do is try to help promote this prototype (don't call it a "demo", because then people are going to be all salty that they have to pay for one).

So basically, I guess what went down in that meeting was probably something like... Exec: "Wow, this build looks good and plays well, but would people these days really spend money on a sequel to a game that didn't sell well enough for us to continue it ten years ago? It's just too old a series to be relevant anymore, and we can't green-light this until we know for sure people are interested in it." Eguchi: "You mean the incessant clamoring, the begging, the pleading, and the singing weren't enough of a gauge, sir?" Exec: "Eguchi, money talks, not show tunes. Put up this build you just showed us on the 3DS store for a small amount of money. If people actually pay for this, then we'll consider green-lighting your pet project and you can rub it in our faces later. Oh, and you'll need way more Devroom users if you want to impress us." After the meetingEguchi: "This is just peachy keen, Kitabayashi. I was banking on that meeting to go off without a hitch." Kitabayashi: "Tell me about it. We've gotta get this build ready for the second that 3DS shop launches. The library's severely lacking, and we could use that to our advantage!" Eguchi: "Way to think like a producer, Kitabayashi! We'll show those naysayers!" (Bonus points to anyone who acts that out on Youtube. )

If that's how it happened, then the executives sure do sound like a bunch of Glukkons...
Points to anyone who gets my reference.... <_<

I would think of a T-Shirt sale to promote contributions to the project for those unable to get a Nintendo 3DS at the moment. It would be much better than simply donating and would help advertise the game. Honestly, are they waiting to greenlight the game before they start making merchandise?

I'm not worried about Legends 3; I'm sure we'll get the game greenlit. I must admit that I see it more of a marketing strategy.
When the e-shop opens; anyone with a 3DS would like to check it out. If they see how cheap MML3P is going, they would like to buy it. Heck, that's a real steal as DLCs for certain games go for way more.
When they beat the game and find out that there's more in Legends 3, it's highly likely that they would be interested. They might even visit the Devroom and express their desire to get Legends 3 completed. We might even get more Mega Man Legends fans that never even heard of the series before. Strength in numbers, I say.
It's a smart move on one hand, but there's one problem: not many people got the 3DS yet as it's very expensive. Here at the local stores, it went for R2800; and one place had it for over R4000!
Then again, I think it's good that Echugi had informed us about MML3's future so that we would go ahead and buy the 3DS before the time.
Let's keep our hopes up and spread the word about the prototype determining the fate of MML3. We've waited for over a decade, so let's make sure the wait wasn't for nothing.
