Raijin: Technically, it's the other way around with Yuna coming before Miku, isn't it? "Younger" means "came after".

Dream: Wait, you were at SIGGRAPH? Dude, that sounds so amazing! Yeah and I'll probably be going to Vancouver this summer to attend SIGGRAPH again. The girl in that video looks like Yuna... :13: :37: Interesting that the 3DS is gonna be "pop in" instead of "pop out." That actually makes a lot more sense based on everything I've heard about this before now. I figured it might be something like that.. And it's good to know that the pop in approach should cause less eye-strain than popping out, because that's been a serious concern of mine since I first heard of this thing. :06: The extensive, detailed explanation of 3D technology was interesting too. Although, a lot of the descriptions weren't particularly relevant to the 3DS. In fact, just about the only 3D mechanism you didn't explain was the 3DS's. Still, cool. Oh. And I'll believe it doesn't look cheap when I see it. People's definition of cheap is pretty lenient when something is trendy. :17: 1. Of course I don't KNOW it's not going to pop out. There probably will be some things here and there that do. I'm just saying that in the professional world of stereoscopy, negative parallax is a terrible thing to be overused. 2. I did go kinda off topic w/ the general 3D info, but I saw some things talked about in the thread that I thought were a bit misinformed. I actually found an article last night that apparently describes a type of "parallax barrier" technology. (Can be found here kombo.com/features/How_the_3DS_Works/# ). Unfortunately they spend most of their time explaining how 3D works in general, I would have liked to know more about how this special device works. Looks like your head can't really move away from the screen's sweet spot before the 3D effect is lost. 3. I'm sure there are going to be a fair share of games with hasty designs that look like crap in 3D. There's a fair share of movies that did this too. Take Last Airbender for example. Instead of shooting with 3D in mind, they converted it in post afterwards, hence it looks like poo. Now look at Avatar, which was entirely done in 3D with only a few live action scenes. This did 3D extremely well, which served to enhance the viewing experience rather than have it be an important part. Likewise there are going to be games that the 3D doesn't look very good on. And there are others that are going to have a lot of time and planning where the 3D will likely look very nice, and will only serve to enhance the detail. Most of this stuff is only my opinion, but I hope that as a fairly educated opinion that some of you might learn something from. Overall I expect the 3DS to be a success. Maybe not in terms of sales or whatever (and i have no idea, maybe it will be huge) I just mean that I think it will be a solid product with the stereo done well more often than not. And if not, there's always the 'off' button ;D

And if you turn the 3d off, its going to ANTI ALIAS THE IMAGE! For those of you who don't know what that is, it means it will smooth out all the jaggedies on the edges of the 3d models. In 3d mode this pretty much isn't necessary. I think that, unlike movies, 3d will really really work well with games. Its more interactive so you can explore the 3d yourself rather than just being shown.

Hey guys. I thought to put this here if some of you still needed a more visual explanation of how the 3DS do 3D.

That was pretty interesting Nightshade, granted I was lost on half of it. I hear the sweet spot stuff is pretty bad on the 3DS, I probably won't use it if that's the case. I tend to hold my head in angle that just wouldn't cut it for the 3D.

Huh, I understood it. For those of you who still don't get it, lemme dumb it down even MORE:
The 3DS has two LCD screens, the normal one and the parallax barrier (Let's just call him 'Perry' for short). Perry's set up behind the normal LCD screen and lets light through in certain spots; the light that goes through makes the 3D effect.
Perry's even got a slider to adjust how much light he filters; you can turn him completely off and have a normal 2D image, or go FULL BORE HYPER 3D FUTURE MAN style, or just adjust it however you want to.
The 'sweet spot' crap just means what angle you're viewing the 3D screen at, basically, and is easily trumped by user-based adjustment (i.e, trial and error, something a LOT of gamers can't be bothered to do don't like to do because they're lazy*) or just by turning the 3D off completely.
*Yes, I mean every word I've just said with absolutely no regret whatsoever. A lot of my fellow gamers are completely bugfuck lazy and retarded and can't be bothered to learn stuff that can help them along the way. You should be completely ashamed of yourselves.
