Do you mods not know of a thing called Internet Cafe?
i am told by a respected member you guys assume me as another user, "a guy" simply because of a matching B-day and IP....
internet cafes exist people...i'm sorry to say this but that was mean of you guys...I'd like an apology

Well, you certainly seem to like changing your identity a lot. Didn't you have an argument with Dashe over your right to name yourself after some video game character not a month ago?
And for the record, it wasn't just the IP and the birthday that tipped us off. Those are the things we found out AFTER the similarity between you and "a guy" were pointed out. I actually suspected it right from the start, you two gave off a similar vibe to me. But it took until "a guy's" hasty departure, his use of the "going away" thread, your immediate return, and your odd recognition of "a guy", referring to him as a "Brit", as if you had some insight into his character that nobody else noticed that I felt it was worth asking Dashe to check the IPs.
And your denial in this thread is just the icing on the cake. Say, have you ever read Macbeth? "Methinks a guy doth protest too much."
Oh, and it sounds like you think IP tracking is some kind of illegal activity. Admins can see every poster's IP at all times. Spotting dupes is as simple as comparing two of them.

What makes this even more hilarious is him suggesting A Guy just so happens to frequent the same coffee shops he does in addition to sharing the same birthday and horrible grammar skillz.
Admit it. The cat is out of the bag.

What an odd situation... There's no witchhunt against you, Aw Heck...I see no one in the staff room faulting you or accusing you of anything. If there was anyone 'tracking down IPs', it certainly wasn't announced to the rest of the staff that an investigation was underway. That being said, you coming out and publicly panicking about being associated with 'a guy' is incredibly suspicious, you have to agree. You could've always talked to Dashe about this in private if you felt anyone was hassling you, unless it was Dashe herself, in which case she probably has pretty good grounds to accuse you. Your birthdays both match, although this is by no means something significant - lots of people share birthdays with each other. Your IPs apparently match, by your own admission. Something else of suspect that I saw, simply because you have suggested a link with this thread, was that you disappeared for the period of about 2 weeks started in late October. 'a guy' signed up a few days after you went away, made all of his posts between the 2nd and the 9th, then has since become inactive as suddenly as he appeared...at which point you returned and made your first post back on the 10th. You've been back since and 'a guy' hasn't posted since. While we discourage multiple accounts, we don't have any rules against them in place and several members in good standing have had multiple accounts and identities in the past ( fun fact: there have been jokes that every single account on MMLS is owned and operated by Pitch, who has debated with himself all manner of Legends-related things since 2003). There's no real need to be overly defensive about something like this. Feel free to talk things out with Dashe or fAB if you believe there's a problem.

Full disclosure: It was during the Sunday night Paintchat that the subject of "a guy" came up. I decided to ask Dashe if she could check the IPs for a match due to my suspicions (I was just curious), and when it was confirmed, we all had a laugh about it. I seem to recall we weren't going to do anything about it unless "a guy" returned (which seemed unlikely at that point) at which point we would have some fun with the knowledge somehow. So, sorry for laughing at you behind your back, but you kinda deserved it for a weird stunt like this.
So did someone tip you off already to bring this thread about or was it just a paranoid stab in the dark?

Do you mods not know of a thing called Internet Cafe? Yeah, as stated above, admins can see your IP Address at all times. I've known about this for a little while myself (read: a few days). That said, you mean to tell me that you and "a guy" both:
- Frequent the exact same cafe
- Have the same birthday
- Never appear at the same time
- Have a similar posting style (as far as grammar goes)
- Both visit MMLS, a fairly small online community
Sorry, but the odds of all of these happening are pretty slim. You're not in trouble or anything, it's just that there's plenty of evidence pointing towards you being the same guy. No point in denying it now. xD
Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha .... HAAAAAA HA HA HA HA HA HA!! I was laughing coming in here, but that post right there had me rolling!

I haven't been around here too terribly much lately, due to business, sickness, and more business, so I don't know if either of them did anything horrible or something, but if nobody has, I wouldn't worry about it too much, Aw Heck. Quite a few people on these boards have had second profiles themselves, iirc. If you are the same person, or you aren't the same person, it probably shouldn't be that big of a deal. Just chill, dude.
EDIT: I guess this is an alright time to go ahead and confess, myself. So, everyone, just so you know, I'm actually Dashe.

...Wow. 0_o I didn't even suspect it at first (I have a history of being very oblivious to stuff like this), but I admit the 'Brit' thing seemed odd even to an average member like myself. All this fuss, over something like that...so weird, no offense. You guys sure like to change your usernames a lot, eh?

Hah, speaking of running gags, there's one that originated over iScribble where I'm also every other female Legends Station member who's ever existed.
Honestly, I didn't use or need a tracker to compare your IP with a guy's. I can see every member's IP on every post they make without having to do anything, and so can fAB. It comes free of charge with the admin license. All I had to do was physically look at your posts, especially since both of you posted in the same thread on the same page.

Raijin's first post had me LOL'ing like crazy too. So did someone tip you off already to bring this thread about or was it just a paranoid stab in the dark? Actually, this one is something I have to own up to. (And thanks, Aw Heck, for not mentioning my name) I sent him a PM earlier today asking about it. I wasn't even going to mention that I knew based on the IP check you guys did. I was gonna just play it cool, but Aw Heck insisted that I “prove it,” so I let him know. Sorry about that. I honestly thought one of you had said something to him by now... >.< (I wasn't actually in on that paintchat session — didn't realize we weren't supposed to say anything) Aw Heck, I apologize — sincerely. I didn't mean to be persecuting you here, it was simply a curiosity on my part. I had no intention of even making it public, and I'm sure no one else did either. I was just curious, because as you see here, I'm a bit notorious for running multiple accounts myself, and I wondered about your motives. I remember that! But yeah, I understand having the need for multiple accounts sometimes. (I've actually been doing that from the very beginning of my days online x__X;) Actually, the rule against randomly changing your name was made up, for the most part, because of me. And I'm not even the only other (non-banned) person who's done this, either. For the record, to anyone else, this is currently my only account. (that you know of : P) I couldn't get past Miss Dashe if I wanted to any more. Apparently every new member who posts with proper grammar is subjected to inspection. xD (p.s., @miss Dashe I don't know if you're still doing that, but I'd LOL my ass off if you were) So, Aw Heck, own up to it or not. I'm afraid your cover's pretty much blown, but I don't think anybody minds either way.

Ok let's see. You have a secret, and someone figures it out. So your response is to tell the world your secret in complaint? I see a few flaws in your plan...
"Aw heck" has a new meaning. lol.
Anyway, as for the main discussion here, the only thing I can really add that hasn't been said, is that EVERY site on the internet logs IP addresses. If you run a site, you can see the IP of every single user that has ever visited. And it's stored, often forever. But unlike what some believe, just finding out your IP address doesn't mean you can find your exact location and hunt you down and kill you or something. At best it would just give your ISP server location. Which is not all that useful in and of itself. Oh look, he is using a server from New York! Ooo, that's only 8 Million people to sort though! Ok, that's an exaggeration, but still, you are talking at least thousands of people using that server. And that's even if they can convert an IP address to a geological location, it's harder then you might think. I just looked up my IP address on something online, and it turned up "Oklahoma". If you can't guess, I don't live anywhere NEAR Oklahoma. Google constantly tries to find my location since they added geotracking to search results, and it hasn't been right yet! So don't worry about IP tracking, it's no big deal. If someone really wanted to hunt you down for hacking or virusing, your normal everyday browser habits are far more lethal. Go to the wrong site (and get your IP logged *cough*), auto download of a bot via a cookie or script, boom, your computer is on a botnet.

Aww, heck.Come to think of it, now that you've been outed, can A Guy make a comeback? He was excellent. *... Or would that technically be a promotion?
