o.o
This topic has been... quite revealing.
And all of you have been posting away while I’ve been busy writing mine. I believe it is my turn. *wags finger*
Though it took me some time to get my bearings around this forum, I eventually did. Indeed, it did have a certain air about it that I enjoyed. All gooeyness aside, I have been observing the posting situation for a few months now, and overall, I decided I’d like to keep quiet about the whole thing. Taking sides is not a strong point of mine, as I have this pesky habit of looking at both sides of an argument. However, if it has come to the point that people such as you, Chiz, and sir Pitch are ready to leave, then heck if I’m going to sit around and watch things resolve themselves on their own. I’m no pansy, darn it. I'm getting an overblown word or two in.
Regarding the supposed spam dilemma, I haven’t much problem with the posting within the Mumbo Jumbo section itself. In fact, I’ve mentioned before that I leaped over from the Neopets chats, so I’m well accustomed to the making/processing of truckloads of randomness and spam with nary so much as a flinch, especially when I have the option of ignoring most of the stuff I don’t like. The sudden outbreak of activity there all at once was rather shaking, especially in contrast to the types of posts these forums have normally presented me with, but after Fab intervened, the number of posts and threads there fell dramatically. Overall, I may be slightly annoyed at some of the stuff there (I agree entirely on one point: It did seem like, at one time, that people were simply attempting to be more random than the previous person. There is a fine line between randomness and raw stupidity. I personally favored reading posts along the lines of BM1-3 and FG, who have a certain refined feel to thier words... but I’m straying.), I do not think that the Mumbo Jumbo section is the problem at the moment. Heck, the Forum Games section was churning up far more pointlessness far before the Mumbo Jumbo area, and no one complained a bit. Not to my knowledge, anyway.
Either way, I’d ultimately prefer that such conversations of the likes of the Mumbo Jumbo section be done over a chat or instant messaging application, if only because it will prevent controversy in the future. Sure, the section was made for such things, but posts made there still linger and affect other areas of the forum; a point which seems to have been made quite clear by the opinions of the anti-spamists here.
My problem really lies with the posting outside of that area. Taking a second look at things, moderation does seem to have become slack recently. Not to say that the moderators aren’t doing anything (Calm thine self, Pharaoh ), but there no longer seems to be that prodding at the back of posters to elaborate their thoughts and explain their views to their fullest. There seems to be a lot of mini-posts being made these days instead of full-blown discussion posts. Case and point, I have been keeping one eye on that one-word post in the RP section for days now, and I’ve yet to see any hint that anyone has even noticed it (As I recall, when posts like that were made before, Feldi or someone would come over and mark the post with a short warning. I’m not sure how the moderators actually work, so forgive me if I seem ignorant in these cases). Then there are things like those “Who’s Hotter” threads, though what really threw me for a loop was that people seemed to care enough to post on them. At the very least, those types of things should be in the General Discussion area or something, where posts are not counted. Just because there isn’t much to talk about these days doesn’t mean that we should reduce the quality of the threads that are condoned in the more serious sections. Everyone seems to have taken to the front lines with this debate over the Mumbo section, but the rest of the forums deserve a good arguing for as well. The games are ancient, yes, but that doesn't mean that there aren't a million more things to discuss about them that we've yet to unearth.
Perhaps I am being too opinionated, and perhaps these problems aren’t as grand as I make them out to be, but such is my opinion.
A few specific responses.
I won't say anything about MLU or GameSpot, seeing as how I've never even been anywhere near those places, but after looking over a few other forums, I've come to take it that the MMLS forums upheld their own high standard of posting. Let us not judge these boards by other people's standards, but by our own. Even if the spam rate is a little higher, I think it may be worth looking into. Pitch has left; even in my numbed state I realize that it must have taken a good shift in the tides of posting here to cause something like that.
Ah, and you have matured wonderfully. However, how will new members mature when they lack the proper knowledge of the kind of posts expected by them? If most of the posts being made around here are one- or two- liners, then that is the example they are likely to follow. We could end up with an entire generation of posters who don’t know any better; and with older members leaving, it'll probably suck us into a downhill snowball. Like some sort of monstrous Kirby gone wrong. It has come to the point where there are people who believe that one five-sentence paragraph makes a long post, and I’ve seen a decline in people attempting to use grammar and proper spelling. I think that it calls for some change. I haven't the foggiest idea what kind, but it calls for change of some sort. We need a Feldinaught clone or something.
I'll second the "Don't delete you account" thing, though FG seems to have covered it well enough.
Hmm... Mlt... Hey, that's me!
What is this odd sensation... like a crisp warmth, spreading through every fiber of my being...
Why, I think I've been touched. In an emotional sense, of course. o.o
I wish I could say the same about everyone else... I really don't feel I've gotten to know many people as well as I should have. Serious discussions and simple Forum Games do not a friendship make to me, I suppose. I just stick around because... because...
Eh... Hmm...
...
Heck, I don’t know. Gives me something to do, anyway.

As for SPAM around the site, it's been a little higher, yes, but OMFG, it's NOTHING compared to MLU.
I know I wasn't here for the earlier days, but I know that this forum is still 2x cleaner than most forums, 2x more relevent than most forums, and also still has a ton of fan activity
This place is ONE GIANT PRO, where as everywhere else is a con.

We need young members at the site, if you remember, those who have been around longer than I, I was once a horrid noob, with no sense of spelling, and the maturity of a... noob. The new members will grow up like I did in most scenarios.

I was speaking against Pitch, and whoever else wants to follow the trend of deleting their accounts, but he has seemed to already hit the "set us up the bomb account" button.

I don't really care about Legends that much anymore. I still love it, but not like I did when I had initially joined, as evidenced by my lack of motivation for sections. I can still RP Legends, I can still write Legends, and I can still talk of Legends, but I can't drum up the passion I once had for it. I don't breathe Legends.
So why am I here?
Because of you people. I love you people. Through this series I have gotten to know some fantastic folks I wouldn't trade for the world. For fab, mlt, Dashe, Shift, Myoku, yes, even you and Pitch and the gang.
