What could a future game be about?

now that the 'mother lode' has been discovered, what else is there to base the series off of (if it were to, but most likely wont, continue) if the focal point has been severed from the series?

The "Mother Lode" may have been found, but there's a huge sequel hook in MML2's ending.

Yuna: Now that Elysium is no longer functioning, the
old System the Master's people shut down has started to reactivate. It was
your responsibility to monitor it. If you die, and it takes over, the
Master's work was for nothing! Do you want that?
Sera (now in Yuna's old body): Do you mean to say that? The Elder's System
is becoming active again?
(Sera opens her eyes, then Yuna sets Sera down)
Yuna: There are remnants of that System buried all over Terra in what the
carbons call ruins. There's so many even I don't know if how many there
are. I doubt they've be fully active soon, but eventually they will. If
we don't do anything, just imagine what will happen to Terra and all its
people. If the Elders and their machines activate, what will your sacrifice
here have been for? What do you say, Sera? Are you up for living with the
people the Master left behind? Could be a little wild, but interesting!

Basically, a new threat is emerging on Terra that is even older than the System you had to deal with before. A threat that is apparently much more serious than the treasure hunt that the Mother Lode quest was. A threat that will provide many more ruins for Mega Man to explore and easily provide enough plot material to base a sequel on. Someday...

...Not only that, but it doesn't look like the Bonnes are going to leave anytime soon! They were no doubt one of the best parts of the series. Only a few games have been made with them; there are so many more ideas that could be explored with the awesome pirate family!

well, to me at least it seems like the MML team wants to make a sequal, but capcom kinda doesn't, so - if they do want it, i guess they have a few ideas what it could be about... even if the main plot is really finished (which doesn't have to be a fact), they could easily start a new one ?

For example, they could start with getting megaman...i mean, hippopotamus back xD ?

It actually came to my mind something that I would like to put on paper for a fanfiction:
a signal is detected from very far away, not coming from Terra but from the space. that signal is recepted and somehow decoded to leave a message in Elysium: There are still humans alive somehwere in the space, and they ask help for the Master to get back. But of Course with the Master dead, only Rock Sera and yuna get the message, the shuttle that was left from Gatz is quickly repaired and they start an adventure to tyhe outer space in search of the lost humans.

Of course it could have some work to it but I didn't really thought much on this. I might even do the fanfic but it might look like different.

I sort of like the concept of the master system v. elder system!
I haven't gotten to that part yet, but I am at Sera and from having seen most of the back story cutscenes and reading this androidarts.com/mml/reaverbot_legends.htm I wouldn't be surprised that they really planned for a third game that uncovered the mystery behind the elder system.

Personally, I think it'd be kind of cool to have a prequel for the next game, encapsulating a fully realized Trigger's war on the Master System. We could further explore the relationship between Trigger and the Master, which would be neat, and we could see what Megaman looked like before his reboot, which would be awesome. It would all lead up to the climactic battle between Trigger and Sera on the Forbidden Island, where they fight each other to a dramatic standstill.

Of course, this would leave the story unresolved, and since a third game would be an absolute miracle of science and nature, and asking for a fourth game to wrap it all up would be an insanely impossible pipe dream in any sort of reality, maybe my idea is just mad ramblings. ^^;

Either way, I just hope the next one actually gives us closure.

Mega man Prime? When I think of space, I think of Metroid Prime and Ratchet and Clank series not so much Mega man. Plus if they were to have the space shuttle magically repaired, it would just make more sense for them to go to Terra instead.

When it comes down to it they would have to make a decision; Find some lost people in space or Go save Terra from the Elder system? Decisions...Decisions?

I do agree with TauVertex. It would just seem to make sense. Then again sometimes people do thing that don't make sense either.

Like lets make the sequel to Mega man Legends about fuzzy bunnies. I'm sure that will sell a little bit more.

as for me, i've not even gotten to past rush mammoo at this point in time but i think, if the Ruins all over Terra are some other system...then we should be able to uncover just what that system's function was

i cant come up with anything creative and on-spot but...i've always thought the unified ruins may be one large machine

and from what i gather this Elder system runs that machine, and the Master's system keeps the elder system asleep/inactive

but what do i want? simply put: i want a loop-around ending
one where we realize we gotta go back to the beginning and undo what we did to begin this adventure to save all humanity on terra

thats what i'd like to see MML3 have as it's twist

ie:
Juno = twist of MML1
MotherLode not being what we thought it was = Twist of MML2
Loop-around "oopsie" wrap-up, = twist of MML3
(it just seems to click in my head dunno why)

At this point, I will not be surprised if DASH2 was retconned in the form of a remake; while the original 'stuck in space' ending is kept, a 'true' ending will show Rock returning to Earth (but alone; as 'Matilda' still has unfinished business, probably to return as a supporter on her own terms in side stories and sequels).

I have an idea for a sequel, but I don't know if you'd like it!

Think about this: Have we ever seen any actual proof that Trigger or the Master actually existed? All we know is what Data, Juno, Sera, and Yuna have mentioned, and nobody seems to know for sure where any of them came from. There's no real evidence.

So, in my idea for a Rockman DASH (Mega Man Legends) 3, it's revealed that Juno, Sera, and Yuna were all created by the same person to trick people into believing in a higher power called the System. In addition, Rock (MegaMan) and Data were given false memories to make them think they were a part of the System. Essentially, by doing so, this mystery person created his/her/its own gods, and even a human to represent them.

Of course, this would mean Rock (MegaMan) is just a normal teenage boy and the Decoys (Carbons) are regular humans. This would also mean the Great Inheritance (Mother Lode) has still yet to be found.

This opens a huge amount of possibilities. For example:
Another protagonist could be introduced: someone who helps uncover the truth behind the System.
Another villain could be introduced: the mysterious mastermind behind it all.
Most importantly, it opens up the possibility of a fourth game, where Rock and friends could return to digouting (digging) and searching for the Great Inheritance (Mother Lode).

But...it's a Megaman game. MEGAMAN. The only other protagonist there has ever been for a Megaman game is Zero! And that's because he was already a huge, huge part of the series as a whole. Everyone else was some form of Megaman! It just wouldn't be fun if we weren't playing as Trigger. It wouldn't be Megaman.
