Oh, come on; [e]xtrude, [g]rab, ox. And then ctrl+e and ctrl+w for everything else. It's all you need, and the rest is menus. And then you can constrain by pressing x y and z. It's as intuitive as breathing!

it's not selecting the tools, it's how to use them to do what I want that is the problem.

You left out a majority of the key combinatioins, Blender pretty much uses every key on the keyboard. Not to mention you forgot to state that the key combos depend on what mode you are in, which is something alot of tutorials forget to mention to new users.
Blender has vastly improved since the days of 2.3, when I first used it. Back then, it was ALL unlabeled hotkeys, no menus, no manipulator, nothing, just hotkeys. But for people who want to get into blender, I suggest waiting for version 2.5. It should be done in a few months and it is a massive interface overhaul. If you learn blender 2.49 now you would just have to relearn stuff anyway for 2.5, and 2.5 will be easier for first timers to use. 2.5's interface is being redone specifically cause the interface is confusing for first time users, and unlike corporate types, they have acknowledged the problem and are working on fixing it. Go Blender!
As for learning blender, no amount of books and tutorials can compare to having someone who uses blender to help you out. TauVertex helped me a ton in figuring that demon out, and I'm not sure I could have figured it out without his help. I'm used to 3ds max, trust me, it is quite difference. If you don't have a friend to ask, blenderartists.org can make a good substitute.

blender2.50 to panda3d egg probably won't be released until after christmas. I think 2.49 will be around for a good while until all the bugs get kicked out of 2.50. It's a really big release, and I'm sure it will be full of problems (although it looks really cool!). MayImilae: you're wrong! Blender's current interface is complete perfection. If you don't understand something, you're just not thinking intuitively enough (sometimes a problem with new apple people ). Haha, anyway, it is very different from 3ds max, which seems to like modifiers too much, or something.

Haha, anyway, it is very different from 3ds max, which seems to like modifiers too much, or something. Yes, because pressing Ctrl-L to copy a material from one object to another is incredibly intuitive. And who didn't guess that Ctrl-J would convert triangles to quads? As much as I'd like to agree with you, Blender, while great and a pinnacle of open-source software, does not have a perfect interface. Some things are placed in weird areas, there are hotkeys like the above examples, and other little quirks here and there. Also, it's very different from other 3D software, making migration to and from it somewhat awkward. By the way, I wouldn't worry too much about starting with 2.49. The interface is getting an overhaul, but the basic functions are going to be pretty much the same. If possible, I would recommend starting learning now to understand how Blender works. You'll have to relearn where things are in the interface, but I think having a few extra months of experience outweighs that.

like I said before, the interface is annoying but my biggest issue was figuring out how the tools work and which tool was right for what I wanted to do. And that sounds like something that I will need assistance with. I just started school today so I will have a little less time now but I will try to become a little more familiar with the basics before 2.5 comes out.

Ok duo, so it's easy for you, cool story bro. That doesn't mean it's easy for everyone else. Specially to those new to 3D, after all, Blender is everything you want it to be, but it is definitely not user friendly when it comes to newbies.

Sorry you can't handle the raw blending power, mirak. A developer from Disney is creating a browser plugin for panda3d that will allow full games to run on windows, mac, linux, and all the rich cats that can afford iPhones! Check it out blog.panda3d.org/?p=14

That seems like an interesting idea... I suppose its nice for developers who want to develop multi-platform but don't want to compile in every OS they want it to work on.

Yeah, it'll be great for people who don't want to download a bunch of things just to play one game as well. There are already engines that have features like this, but none of them are as strong as panda.

I'll be willing to try python when that thing is confirmed as released.

Haha, why don't you try to learn python and panda3d now? They're Disney- it's not like they're lying about it!

I just updated the front page with a site that has games built directly in the blender game engine. I know that rockmanjuno was interested in that.
@mirak: so the browser plugin is released. Are you still interested?

Yes, i´m interested, these are made only using BGE or using python too? As i mentioned you before, i´m making a game with only Blender´s Game Engine, as far as i can tell, the project is going up, maybe i´ll upload something in the future.
