Didn't want to sway another thread off topic, and I think this deserves a thread all its own. Sorry if there's already a thread like this buried under all the rest. I didn't bother to look.
Inafune-sama's totally awesome game Dead Rising 2, which I talk about way too often on this board, takes place over three in-game days, with each in-game minute being only 5 real-life seconds. Do the math. That's only six hours of gameplay.
...This is how all games should be made.
I can see how that would work for certain games; namely Harvest Moon or Dead Rising 2, but a lot of games just have a different pace. I think Mario 64 is a pretty good example, being able to tackle whatever objectives you wanted at your own leisure, not being pressured by anything but your own interest, and having the ability to finish the game once you've passed a certain point, or continue on trying to complete every challenge the game has to offer.
Legends 1 may not be as nonlinear, but it's certainly more easy going (2 felt pressured but in a more artificial, impending doom sort of way, imho). There's no rush. You have the option to take it easy and savor the world they created, if you so wish. Or if you like it 6 hours long you can just plow through it. Your call. This is how I'd like them to handle MML3.
Again, too lazy to dig anything up on this but I remember someone mentioning "episodes" in reference to that whole fan written bit. Could be a misunderstanding, but I hope what they mean by that is scenarios. I would hate for this to be split into major parts. That's just too formulaic for my tastes.
My only concern is the length. How long is this game going to be? I hope as long, if not longer than MegaMan Legends 2.
