- Take 1- Take 2- Take 95Some of you may be familiar with this, but a quick background: A while ago, I was speculating about what kinds of classes there could be in a Legends-based MMO, and pumped that first batch of sketches out. Some time later, I followed up with that second one there, fleshing out the designs and ideas a little more. Now, skip ahead a few cycles flaw-fixing and correct-stuff-ruining and class-reconceptualizing, and you end up with something like that last one. Only one gender for each class in this draft. Consider these... characters based off of the previous archetype designs, I guess. The kind of characters you might be able to create and play as in a Legends MMO, if there was one. Been trying for a while to make each one as distinct and original (as original as one can be when making fan characters, anyway) as possible. But I've been staring at them for way too long to really tell what's working and what isn't at this point, so I'd really appreciate any input you guys might have on this. The questions I'm mostly looking to get answered are these: - Do they all look as though they could exist in-universe? Do they seem plausible? If you could imagine them as being actual NPCs from the game, I'd consider it a success. - Do the designs remind you of specific characters from the games? Because I've been trying to avoid that. Servitor and Digger are slightly unavoidable (only two servitors and two armored diggers in canon to use as guides), but I claim no excuses for the others. And if any of them does remind you of someone, then whom? - Are they all distinct? Do specific designs or silhouettes look too similar? If you were thrown into a dark room with all of them, do you think you could still tell them all apart? - Does anything just look stupid? Looking in-universe is one thing, but you don't want to appear silly while you're doing it. Any thoughts, whether they answer the questions or not, would be much appreciated. Also, for the iScribble crowd, here's the slightly older Take 86 I showed around that one time, just for reference. Thanks again.

Your art style definitely doesn't match Legends'. It's almost more Monkey Island-esque. Although I must say I really love it. I could just stare at them as well:04:. There definitely are some things that you got right on as to have an undeniable Legends influence like the abnormally thin abdomens. If you were to change anything, I'd say it should simply be their postures. Your characters are a bit slouchy and although it fits your style the official legends art and game itself seems to have the characters pretty upright.
I think they're all different enough. The spotter and saboteur (oh, thanks spell check. You might want to fix that in your drawing :22:) look sort of similar but I think the roll style jacket on the spotter is enough to distinguish them unless you'd be willing to change the hair on one of them as well.
Maybe some of their mid sections are a little too excessively thin now that I think about it.
I must say I like what you did with the latest businessman and aberrant changes.
Well, that's about all I got. I'm excited to see what you can do with these guys!

are you saying that the gender issue is one gender per class :ie if digger's were guys, people choosing to play as females cant be diggers?
if so, fix that issue then we'll talk...
overall nice artwork, and the aberrant was cool.
i personally think my fave was the digger though, very similar yet very different to our loved Trigger

I was kind of disappointed to see the engineer's design gradually look and dress less and less like I usually do. But yeah, I'd totally buy that...
Though I'm having trouble telling whether your digger is a guy or a really flat-chested girl. His/her hair's kind of lifeless, too. I think some lift or a nice cowlick will do it a world of good, or at least bring it closer to Legends style. Actually, looking at it again, all of the haircuts are pretty flat as far as Legends characters go. A little bit of Bed Head goes a long way in the wide world of anime.

A little bit of Bed Head goes a long way in the wide world of anime. Yup. Take a look at some official Legends art, you can pretty much make any hair style using nothing but misshapen circles and cones. You've done a really good job as far as hair goes, though, with a few exceptions ( like the pirate here). These are all amazing, though. Aside from having a very western cartoon style, they really capture the essence of the Legends world. I don't even like online games, but I would try this. I'm not sure there's a whole lot I haven't said about these sense you first showed them, so... Make a game.

I BLAME PHOTOSHOP. And night. Neither is very conducive to coherent post-making. :06: Fix'd, and to clarify, this has nothing to do with the theoretical MMO that acted as the inspiration for these drawings; this is just about the drawings themselves. I'm curious about how the designs hold up to fresh eyes. The only decent excuse I can give you as to why there’s only one of each gender in this draft is that it simplified things on my end. Was going to ask for a bit of clarification on the Monkey Island/cartoony thing, but I think I see where you guys are coming from now... Probably partially the postures, partially me pushing the proportions a touch too far, a few angles being too wide here and there... subtle stuff. Not sure if I can avoid it, but I'll watch that in the future. As for everything else, consider it noted. Thanks a bunch. If anyone else has something, please continue. Maybe one day.

I'm not too into MMO's myself, but from a gameplay standpoint, wouldn't the functionality of the class take precedence in the player's decision over purely aesthetic things like gender or appearance?
I agree with the simplified approach. If allowing for customizable gender, then why not go the whole nine yards and allow for customizable appearance? At which point the whole design exercise becomes meaningless. Half the work for the full amount of payoff is always smart.
I don't think the difference in art style matters here. If it were a game, the designs could be adjusted to a house style easily enough. The important things are the fashion sense and mechanical design, and that looks Legendsy enough for the most part. I know what you mean when you say you're struggling to make them look unique compared to each other and pre-existing characters, yet similar enough to look like they blend in. I wouldn't worry about the silhouettes since color plays an important part in identification and distinction. Besides, the only silhouettes that look a little too similar to me are the Digger and Pirate as both being helmetless armor-wearers of the same height, but like I said the color difference makes up for it.
The only thing that doesn't look quite right to me is the Aberrant, particularly the legs. Maybe I missed the digest on this guy, is he supposed to be some combination of Reaverbot and Carbon mechanical design? I get that it's supposed to look weird, like a Frankenstein monsterbot type of thing, but it should still look like it fits into the canon mechanical design style that birthed it.

I'm not too into MMO's myself, but from a gameplay standpoint, wouldn't the functionality of the class take precedence in the player's decision over purely aesthetic things like gender or appearance? in an MMO it depends upon the gamer, i myself like to cross-play if the girl profile has a better customization feature, said better-ness defined by one thing: Options. ie1: so i join Runescape: both males and female have it even, so i'll join as a male IE2: i join a fan-mmo that has girls with more class options, i join as a cross-played Girl PC IE3: i join an MMO like the above, only guys get more customization = i'll join as a guy in MMOs options of characters and gameplay are whats sales the game, without either, neither works but anyways onto the question the TC asked for basically i like the blends of Glyde's and Trigger's armor on the digger...or was that not-intended? and as for the aberrant, i have no problems with him, but he'd need to be slow, clunky, and powerful with lots of HP and Ranged DEF, but weak to a direct hit to his overall body i also liked the Purifiers having a helmet versus the diggers not, very nice way to separate them and like Dashe Said, use messy hair, but dont go overboard with it, anime-hair defies gravity yes, but not physics.

I remember seeing these before. 'Take 95' is great- a very good interpretation of Legend's art in your own unique style. I would totally play this if it were a game.

Hm, come to think of it, I'd like to see your style-version of a mother unit.

Saboteur seems like the FUN class to play as, Melty. I can only guess they'd be the biggest trolls in the MMO.
