Alright. I know you're all going to completely ignore me as you always have( ), but I've been seeing a lot of it lately and I think it's about time someone said it.I'm noticing a lot lately that people aren't even bothering to put up Avatar images that are anywhere near the 100x100 pixel maximum. Ugly-looking distorted images of a greater file size than they ought to be. The small effect on loading time doesn't bother me the least bit, just the laziness of it.. it gets really annoying. You can resize an image in seconds, it'll be a reasonable file size, and (I think the most important) it won't be really freaking ugly. The easiest solution I can provide for most people would be the ImageResizing PowerToy from this website("ImageResizer.exe" on the right). Just about anyone using XP should be able to use that: a simple right click, pull up the Resize window, Custom size, set both values to 100(it will auto-adjust for aspect ratio). Naturally anyone with a graphics editing program even a little better than Paint can do this by other means(Paint can do it too, but without a clean resize).

I think part of the reason was that during the time you were gone, all of the official Legends-Station avatars were resized to 150x150 when the NxC, LTD, Bonne Mechs, and later Alternate Trigger avatars were added. I don't see much of a problem with resolution on those avatars specifically, and from what I can see most of the really distorted avatars look like they were shrunk down from a larger file instead of blown up from a smaller one. I've personally used exclusively Legends-Station avatars for everything but Halloween since I signed up here.
Then again, I barely know Photoshop as it is, so I'm probably not the best person to consult on this matter (what am I saying, I consulted myself...dang.)

Oh yeah, big to small is rarely a problem(I have seen some people go small-to-big before but that's not the issue presently)... but they could be better in any case. An actual resize I mean. The HEIGHT and WIDTH attributes in HTML are completely un-enhanced. Plus the file size remains the same(the worst I've seen was elsewhere but sometimes the size is just ridiculous). I was going to go all out and diagram it with two images but I really don't care that much about it.
I'm just pointing out something people can do to make their avatars better, not really demanding any change. Most of the down-sized images are temps anyway; not something anyone really intends to use for an extended period.
Also, was it necessary to put this here? I thought this section was for site-related complaints...

The forum's part of the site, and the avatars are part of the forum. That's my logic, to say the least.

It's more of a user-related complaint. The avatars in question are off the website, being hotlinked from elsewhere. I didn't mean to direct it to the staff of the forum, but to the general users, and that was my logic in placing it under General Discussion.
Musashi, you're just one of many here; don't take it personal. Add to that the fact that I've seen it like crazy on other Proboards. It's a pretty broad-scoped complaint, really.

Who needs an image resizer? Open up paint and select the option 'soft resize' when you're in the atributes panel, if you don't own photoshop and macromedia fireworks like i do. Either that, or ask someone who has those programs to resize them for you. (Me I was complaining not too long ago about the fact that there are 150 x 150 avatars but you cannot submit one of that size, but big avatars aren't that appealing anyway. Mine always look good, so i'm out of the question here, or whatever the expression in english is.

Call me crazy, but I'm looking at the standard Paint attributes window and not seeing any 'soft resize' option whatsoever. .. the Image Resizer PowerToy can resize several images at once, in seconds. It's useful to have: a simple right-click and your images can be resized to fit your needs.

Your paint is weird, i'd get a screenshot now, but i'm sorta tired so i'll get it tomorrow first thing.
The use the program you mentioned isn't denied, but it does not take out the matter that it's still an independent program, wich has few uses. (I don't think you need it every 30 minutes, eventually it'll just get in the way of your pc.)

It's the same Paint I've used for the past five, maybe six years.
I've tested it on my computer - fresh from install only a week or so ago, my dad's computer, and now I'm on one of the school computers. I think maybe your Paint is weird. o.o
The program is completely unnoticeable. And ridiculously small. Now, of course, I've got more space than I know what to do with(about 480GB... Well, 480,000MB[468.48GB-ish]).. but I doubt it would ever get in the way.

Microsoft Paint never has had soft resize, unless its in vista (but the beta 2 didn't have it anyways...)
If you need a free program to do image related dirty work, the best is photo shop or GIMP (With the cubic resize filter) but if you just need to quickly resize, a utility like the one in the beginning of this post works.

Bump for great Justice! Original Message Posted on Apr 24, 2007, 9:21pm: I was gonna say.. I've been using Paint a long while, I think I would've noticed that.
I use GIMP when I'm in Linux mode. It's pretty solid, but certainly doesn't compare with Photoshop or Paint Shop Pro. As image resizing goes it would be just fine, but XD, it's a bit large-scale. I was just trying to offer a simple solution. Meant to do it a while ago; in all honesty, I thought I already had. I'd like to draw attention to the fact that Photobucket has a Resize feature geared specifically to, among other things, avatars. It will give you a cleanly resized image, maintaining the proper proportions and all that stuff(the larger of the two dimensions will be set to 100 pixels the smaller adjusted accordingly). You don't even have to install anything on your computer (youlazysunnuvugun)!!
